Time for revolution in Oz: Make Australia Great Again!

I’ll tell you how.
Declare a republic and draft a constitution that makes inalienable rights of freedom of speech, assembly, publication, worship – and gun ownership with concealed carry allowed for all honest citizens.
Then enact an open primary system with strict term limits of no more than eight years in federal office…make the individual politician – who is always assumed to be a criminal and watched carefully – legally responsible for his actions.
Restrict the right to vote and to hold office to honorable discharged veterans with at least two years of service…ditto policemen…firemen – and patriotic citizens who lack the physical ability for demanding federal service, but are willing to do some type of hard labor for the republic – like teaching school in high crime urban areas.
Make a requirement of high school and college courses of civic virtue and the duties of the citizen. The stress would be on the Australian constitution and the virtue of a free state under the rule of law, and equal time given to the various theories of bad government – with great attention given on the bad – to include socialism, fascism and communism.
If Australia would create such a free republic, in a generation the streets would be paved with gold- and good, intelligent, hard working and educated people from the four corners of the earth would put in their application and stand in mile long lines to become citizens.
We need to do some of these things in the U.S.
We all know what’s needed, that’s a no-brainer.
But it ain’t going to happen. What’s more, the Oz I grew up in worked perfectly well as it was, and as it was wasn’t as you describe, Ronbo. It was a laid-back, tolerant, easy-going culture that accepted (per capita) more migrants and refugees than any country on earth. That was a brilliant success because those migrants and refugees assimilated.
All that’s necessary for Oz to prosper again is to destroy the left and to reduce the size and power the bureaucracy. The rest will follow.
KG, I think we are on the same page, because to destroy the Left will take a revolution….A bloody revolution…Here in America we are attempting a bloodless, political revolution to overthrow the bureaucrats and the Left – and look what’s happening – Gridlock!
Yes, I hope the Aussies can manage their revolution in a calm, cool, laid back manner they are famous for, but experience tells me the ruling class anywhere in the world – even Australia – will not go quietly into the night….they will fight…it will come down to civil war.
I think at the end of the day – in America and Australia – we will have to enact new safeguards to defend liberty after the revolution…and this would be amendments to the present constitutions, or the creation of new governments from the ground up.
The objective would be to make it impossible for socialism ever to rise again.

Here in NZ today some Greenies are trespassing on private land and blocking works to prevent more irrigation development in Canterbury. These sly pricks are not out to protect the environment but rather wish to hi-jack and destroy private enterprise. Greens are very easy to despise.
In this country those who trespass on private property get buckshot in their butts and the bums’ rush to the county jail.
