The more they change, the more they stay the same-
“Does any of this matter? It does if we want America to be America. The left is doing its level best to turn us into another Third Reich. The patterns are there for anybody who has eyes to see. Be clear about it: the left, not the right, is the root of Nazism and national socialist leftism.”
And it’s true of every wester nation, not just America.
“Be clear about it: the left, not the right, is the root of Nazism”
And that needs to be hammered home again and again. But will it do any good? When people will – without shame or any real awareness – wear clothing emblazoned with communist murderers and symbols. a minor detail like nazism being a leftist beast isn’t likely to mean much to them.
This is why I consistently point to the sinister side. Harder to miss that way.
Mr or Ms liberal, why do you identify with the sinister side? It’s hiding in plain sight, there in their label.
They simply use your good intentions with which to hide their power seeking that lets them force obligations upon others. And then it’s woe to you when they decide you are no longer useful or when you awaken to them having gone too far — such as their violent thugs in Antifa– the copycats of the fascists and Nazis of the 20th Century.
There is more safety on the Right. And more openness too, although not completely since we’re currently afflicted with the GOPe types.
Other than Hitler’s palpable hatred of the Soviet Union was there ever an actual doubt about this? I suppose that the extreme right and the extreme left both hold a totalitarian mindset bereft of individual sovereignty and routine freedoms. (Well they used to be routine…)
If we asked for John Maynard Keynes input he would have said that Nazism is totalitarianism. Totalitarianism is left. In his famous book, in the German Preface he said:
“Nevertheless the theory of output as a whole, which is what the following book purports to provide, is much more easily adapted to the conditions of a totalitarian state, than is the theory of production and distribution of a given output under the conditions of free competition and a large measure of laissez faire”.
So even Keynesian economics is totalitarian, within a few years Hitler took power in Germany.
Just to be clear, there are two choices free enterprise, with freedom, and totalitarianism with being controlled. When it is looked at from that point of view, Nazism, communism, socialism and yes keynesianism are all left wing systems.
Great quote!
And Warren, we don’t have anything like free enterprise anywhere. What we have is socialism on one hand and crony capitalism on the other.
Yes KG, ever since going off of a gold or silver backed currency, capitalism hasn’t existed. Those economists who argued for free enterprise explained how the mechanisms work under a gold standard. So those mechanisms don’t exist, therefore free enterprise is not the right word. A ‘controlled economy’ are the right words.
For instance, David Hume, Adam Smith, David Ricardo and John S. Mill argued that under a gold backed currency, your exports have to equal your imports. The US has or had a $500 billion trade deficit.
