If you are only testing the really sick patients then you will have a higher death rate per million than others who are testing large chunks of their population and thus identifying those who have the virus but are not ill. These figures mean very little.

I got an interesting email recently. The medical practice notified me they are still taking consultations. That tells me they are hawking for business. The NZ lockdown means folks aren’t dropping into the Dr’s office for minor ailments and they are starting to feel the financial pinch.
Yep, nurses and staff doctors at most hospitals have been laid off or had their hours cut. Everything was canceled to empty as many beds as possible for the supposed swell of C-19 patients. The swell that in most places hasn’t materialized and most likely won’t.
My doctor has notified me that I can come and get my free flu vaccine from him. He must be desperate!
mawm, I got a phone call from my doctor’s practice today asking me when I had my last tetanus jab and letting me know I can get a shingles vaccination. Yes, they are getting desperate.
The shingles vac is probably the one to get as you age. It’s free for the over 65’s. You don’t want shingles – ask someone who had it. It’s not called “the devil’s grip” for nothing.
If you garden, hang around farms, etc. it’s a good idea to keep up with your tetanus vaccinations – every 10 years or so. The only problem is they seem to only have a DPT vaccine available and not the tetanus only one.
