Incorrect leadership, breeds incorrect policy

Opinion piece in the Daily Caller, on the effect incorrect policy has on elections-

Daily Caller-

From the write up-

“Apologists will defend Governor Cuomo as well as the specialists whose projections were so astronomically off by arguing that the curve flattened faster due to the adherence of those stay-at-home and economic shutdown policies.

But that is not true.

On March 24, Governor Cuomo said the opposite, in fact.  He reported that stay-at-home was not working, that the curve was increasing, not flattening, and that 26,000 New Yorkers were going to die because the President wasn’t sending enough ventilators. The data that caused him to make this declaration was an increase in test availability, which led to a massive spike of infected cases during that week. My third grader has completed his math assignment and can now explain the mistake the governor made.

The fatality rate being used to forecast how many of those new active cases would lead to death was…not even close.

Policy makers had, and still have, no idea what the real infection rate or death rate was or is. The death rate of tested and confirmed cases that have been reported is 4.6% in New York and 0.8% in Utah. Still unknown are positive cases not tested, tested but still awaiting results, or people who already had it in December, January, or February, have recovered, and now carry antibodies (denominator). And we still don’t know the fatalities from before we started counting (numerator).”

In my opinion:-

As a whole we need to stop putting much if any faith in computer models. The old saying-“garbage in, garbage out” is very true. When we examine various models and their predictions , whether it be a viral outbreak a Hurricane path or a climate change model, we see that as time passes and the predictions are tested by reality, most fall terribly short of their predictions as to be essentially useless.

Some models, especially those surrounding climate modeling, are built solely to drive public opinion and skew the decision making of elected officials in the direction of multi-national business interests. Despite being the single largest contributor to pollution on Earth, China spends billions every year lobbying for “green” policies to be implemented by the rest of the world. Why? Because they can use new environmental regs enacted in those countries to push offshoring those country’s industries to China. In addition, what country produces the most green tech hardware? China, flawed, urm…skewed computer modelling has been good for business….in China.

Re: Cuomo and his “leadership” his leadership has been entirely reactionary. There was no fore thought and no prior preparations for this viral outbreak on any level from any elected official. How could there be, the CCP ,WHO and CDC all carried the same tune that this virus “showed no signs of human to human transmission” officially as late as Jan 18th.

Cuomo’s leadership is mostly aimed at saving his job. If he did nothing, or even did something in a publicly half hearted way, he would be out with the trash come November , especially given the media driven hype surrounding C-19.

His leadership in this moment is shaped by the reality that came home to roost, his polices and those of like minded officials nationwide are what contributed to the spread of this virus. His leadership in the here and now, by necessity is good, I give it a B-.

Should he be considered for president or VP? Absolutely not, given what the fruition of his leadership the rest of the time has brought on the state of New York and by extension the rest of the nation. After all, even a broken clock is right twice per day.
