That’s not good news at all. He’s an at risk person for an adverse outcome. I’m sure he’ll be taking his HCQ, a macrolide antibiotic and zinc.
Most of the “at risk” types I know that have had serious issues with the stuff have had one thing in common-sedentary lifestyles. This is the only thing that explains why the obese bank executive ends up in the hospital, but the obese delivery driver didn’t. Or the elderly obese store cashier didn’t, but the elderly obese shut-in did.
In other words, people who’s feet hit the ground running every morning, don’t seem to have much trouble with it once they get it, regardless of the weight, age, etc.
We have a 96 y/o WWII vet around town that has never stayed home or worn a mask since this thing started. Girl in the supermarket asked him if he wasn’t worried about getting it. His reply was classic- “I haven’t worried about anything since Normandy” she was young enough she probably had to google it.
A lot depends on where the fat is. The dangerous fat is that in the omentum – the layer around the bowel. There are people we call thin-fat. They look like Sad Sack with thin arms and legs but a pregnant-looking paunch.
One has to admire these old vets, Normandy must have been hell. I like his attitude and that’s probably why he’s 96 and still getting around town.
