“There is another first amendment issue here. The establishment clause should forbid the state from establishing this religion of “science”, a faith in a set of outcomes that looks for a source of support.
There are many denominations (sets of belief) of science. Why is the state endorsing one over the other, or any?”
Ed, I have argued for years that the whole AGW/Climate change “science” scam is a religion and not true science. And by that standard any government endorsement violates church and state.
And you were right.
Now it’s come to a head at SCOTUS it seems.
And I’m honored by the link. Thanks.
The great evil acts of the twentieth century were committed by people whom wanted to do good. The perversion of the good intent to totalitarianism is very common. Science has a faith, a desire to do good, which has be co-opted and perverted. By money. Science has lost its demand for truth, its morality, and has been pimped out to the rich. Atheism is a belief, a faith. Only, it is a belief in nothing.
Solzhenitsyn:
“To do evil a human being must first of all believe that what he’s doing is good… Ideology – that is what gives evildoing its long-sought justification and gives the evildoer the necessary steadfastness and determination. That is the social theory which helps to make his acts seem good instead of bad in his own and others’ eyes, so that he won’t hear reproaches and curses but will receive praise and honors.”
Beware the “evil dogooders”
Bill Gates.
Pb, I warned that this was becoming obvious and dangerous in 2014 in a 3 part essay laying out how scientism had become the religion of the state in all but admission of that fact. (Let me know what you think.) It received limited recognition and comprehension of the consequences.
I fear the lack of wide recognition remains the same today despite many more who see it now but too late. Too late because those in the ruling class have shucked off the bonds of the US Constitution. That leaves only the 10th Amendment solution which is fraught with danger and pain and requiring men of courage and vigor and divine backing.
I agree pascal. There is a stream of unconscious knowledge which is roaring unheeded through our lives. The stream is in flood and is becoming more and more conscious due to the carnage being wrought. A lot more people than us are becoming aware of it. I think it was Science that gave us the idea that one man against a billion opinions can still be right. One Science idea can skittle a billion if it is true, even if unpopular.
Alfred the Great was considered one of the early great scientific thinkers. A priest. He teamed up with Thomas Aquinas who revealed pagan Aristotle and the scientific method to the world. In the 1200’s! These guys were hard core Italian? philosophers who believed in science AND the grace of god. Moderns are trying to get to heaven without morality. It just isn’t going to work. Science without morality has become a plaything of the elite.
I have been on a Tolkien binge, and all his great evil characters started off trying to be good. It’s a theme in all his work. Science and modernity were destructive forces, in the end. The infernal combustion engine. Just finished an audible version of “The children of Huron” narrated by Christopher Lee. What a sad story. It’s very good. To the tragic end the characters were battling with themselves, trying to be good. Magic swords and dragons are Tolkien’s science.
Albert not Alfred. Oops.
“Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.
In this revolution, research has become central, it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocation, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet in holding scientific discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.”
Dwight Eisenhower, Farewell Address.
What Eisenhower didn’t foresee was the subversion of science and scientists by the government to force a false narrative such as the global warming hoax down our throats.
That is precisely what he warned of.
All of our great institutions are being turned into control mechanisms in order to hide the truth from people and enslave them.
Big Tech has their hands in every aspect of it.
He’s warning of the government controlling the research and researchers and the use of science to capture public policy. At no point does he say that they will use false “research” to force policy. This makes it worse than what he was warning against. Just my take on it.
You’re correct in your reading mawm.
Most here know I did science for a living for years. What this lot is peddling is not science…trust me on this one.
The AGW crowd are a religious cult, complete with high priests (politicians an big business) apostles (celebs and sports stars) all of whom are absolved of their “carbon sins” by purchasing holy indulgences (carbon credits)
Roy Lofquist, spot on.
That is the real part of Eisenhower’s speech, to take note of.
In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.
Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields.
In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research.
Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity.
For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.
The prospect of domination of the nation’s scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.
Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

I just had to repeat it again, as so often I have had major arguments about this.
The academia, supposed researchers, universities, that accumulate millions if not billions of dollars in fees, plus also as gifts, etc.. from their ex students etc..
Sure there may be a problem with the “military industry complex” but the military part are only the “enforcers”.
So many of their “top guys” have been through the “university indoctrination” system.
The concept of “military industry complex” is the camouflage cover, so often pulled to mask the “Big Tech” “Big Pharma” “Big Health” “Environmental Sustainable Control” with “Big Money” in “Greenery Projects” all aligning in “Big Education Indoctrination”.
The “Big Media” well trained to follow the money, to clip the ticket into their pockets.
Eisenhower thought they would remain honorable, and possibly would, if everything was open, transparent, up for debate, with proper evaluation, accountability with responsibility.
History repeats, or rather rhymes, like for the Greeks, Romans, Bible, other civilizations, that tells of how man so often, over time derails.
