Of the college aged kids I know, most of the boys are going the 2-year community college and get a job route, if they are going to college at all. Many are going into paid internships and some are going the direct path route,i.e. being hired directly into their field right out of high school.

On Friday NZ moves to a ‘traffic light’ system in addition to the Alert Levels. This system is designed to separate the vaccinated from the unvaccinated. The vaccinated will be able to attend functions in greater numbers and venues and businesses will be allowed to discriminate against unvaccinated if they so chose.

Puzzle: With the new certificate mandates and given you are correct about the 14% reduction in police staffing, how are the police going to add all the necessary compliance inspections and maintain standard crime response and detection?

Some private hospitals are refusing non-vaccinated patients. I would not guarantee the Health Service won’t do likewise. I am aware that most elective surgery is postponed at Levels 3 & 4. That ‘elective’ surgery may be vital for longer term survival and certainly to quality of life.
Michael’s correct. I know that at even L4 that the gynaecology OR’s in Auckland City Hospital are running normally, but then the majority of their work is oncology. It seems that there has been a drift from all elective surgery being cancelled to keep the hospital capacity down to more and more being done in the other theatres. In the end I would guess that it would depend on the hospital.

I always worry about this kind of article.
Firstly Redesivir is a repurposed drug that didn’t work for AIDS. It was used for Ebola but killed off 30% of the patients in a trial done by Dr Fauci himself. I have heard reports that they go into renal failure. Some Dr who is not an intensivist said they were going into pulmonary oedema because of it (which sometimes happens if one is not careful with fluid management especially in renal failure). I have also read that the makers of Remdesivir, Gilead, paid the hospital to use it.
There is obviously extensive lung damage in late stage Covid which can result in fluid accumulation in the alveoli (pulmonary oedema) and limited gas exchange which because of solubilities affects O2 more than CO2, and an increased work of breathing because of the loss of surfactant. Low O2 levels drive respiration by increasing depth as well as rate. One gets to a point in oxygen desaturation where increasing the concentration of O2 has no effect, where the O2 cost of breathing is having a detrimental effect, the patient tires and can no longer breathe adequately that one is left with no choice but to put him on a ventilator.
ICU is an intense job with alterations being made continually to changing parameters. There are many breathing manoeuvres that are tried first before a ventilator. That nurse probably is not an ICU trained nurse or she has an agenda.
BTW – high dose Vit C, steroids and avoiding unnecessary ventilation and prone ventilation were around long before covid-19.
Mawm in particular will appreciate this one. This is testimony of a clinical trial volunteer. She was appalled at the lack of concern by the researchers about reactions not foreseen. And it got worse than even that sounds. I wish I had the testimonies of others in the forum. She referred to one other previously mentioned.
Very sad. I would bet that she was not told about the shortcut in animal trials – so she was unable to give informed consent.
I would never willingly be a subject in a drug trial. Never. But they are seduced by the offer of easy money and lots of promises. But it’s not only the trial participants. I read about a family who had huge medical bills as a result of their son’s myocarditis. I’m sure there are many, many more.
There’s the mystery surrounding the approval of Comrnaty and the continued use of an unbranded Pfizer vaccine in the US. I don’t know if it’s true but I hear that if a drug is under emergency utilisation the makers can’t be sued in the US, and that once a vaccine is approved as long as it is used for children as well they can’t be sued. Makes one wonder about the change in the definition of “vaccine” by the FDA, and the huge push to vaccinate children of all ages.
The FDA, CDC and the NIH no longer work for the American people but for Big Pharma instead!

Question: If a new variant occurs in NZ and it is shown to be resistant (or not affected at all) to the current vaccines, will those now designated as vaccinated be relegated to an unvaccinated status for the purposes of the new exclusion policy? There was a message from the NZ Government running across the bottom of the TV screen last night (Full disclosure – I was watching a Christmas movie). It stated that 93% of eligible people had received the first vaccine with 87% fully vaccinated with two jabs. I thought that was supposed to be the ‘herd immunity level.
I noticed something else the other day. The COVID19 website for the NZ Ministry of Health shows the number of cases with hospitalisations for unvaccinated and one and two jabs separately (along wth ‘Undetermined’). What it doesn’t do is break down the cases at the start of the latest surge. Therefore, the unvaccinated to vaccinated ratio is highly screwed toward unvaccinated because of the inclusion of cases before a vaccine was available. The presentation makes it look like the unvaccinated are more likely to catch the disease when it is more likely the risk is either even or a majority vaccinated.
Vilification of the unvaccinated is not warranted and the current restrictions are ineffective.
