At work I get corporate letters from various customers that we work for and sell supplies to.The term “strategic re-alignment” is the new MBA office drone buzz word”, it’s in almost every letter. Normally I just bite my tongue and smile while I pretend they aren’t retarded, but the other day we got one where the new Indian (dot not feather) CFO decided he was going to send out a letter basically demanding that we the vendors find at least a 20% cost reduction as part of their “strategic cost re-alignment”.
I read that and just lost it, at first I laughed out loud, then I got pissed. I rang up his boss and informed him not only was that the dumbest letter I have ever read, but he should fire whoever thought hiring that mentally defective idiot was a good idea.
Then his boss, that I have known for 20 years, says,
“But I hired him” my reply was “Well, I told you awhile back to quit eating Crayons” then hung the phone up. It felt good
Well, good luck finding someone who can provide you what you need and stands behind it at 25% less. That’s because due to our own cost cutting our cost to you only just rose a mere 5%. We were going to wait a few months, but your letter provided us with an early window for breaking the good news to you. Thank you.
It’s really my fault, I failed to take the initiative and send out a 20% price increase letter to all my customers Jan 2 this year. I could have raised their costs 20%, but then given each of them their very own “special” 10% discount, you know, just because we’re “corporate partners” and all.
I was lucky to work for independent companies for most of my working life. I am amazed looking back at just how much these employers cared for the company and the people they employed. It’s a sad fact that small firms are becoming a thing of the past. Put out of business, not by the global corporates directly but by governments who have legislated the small players out of the marketplace. Why have they done that? They do that because the corporates lobbied them into it. I am not suggesting that large bribes and even blackmail was used. No, I would never suggest such a thing.😉
