If you ask, most people will tell you that fraudsters who steal from accounts they have been assigned to manage are among the worst of humanity, lacking in basic values. That theft is often from elderly who have trusted them to manage the accounts with prudence and fiscal responsibility.
I’m wondering if a defence such fraudsters could put forward would be to state “I just taxed the account for my services”. It actually makes sense when you think how carless elected officials are with the monies collected through taxation of the general public without consequence. Spending on pet projects to keep them in office where they enjoy perks not available to the taxed and failing to adequately (or often not at all) monitor how the recipients of some of that money actually spend it.
They could just call themselves “Congressman” or “Senator” at this point. After all, with the state of the ballot box, who’s to say our congress has been elected legitimately?
