‘..REFUGEE supporters say lawyers must be sent to Christmas Island to ensure asylum seekers facing riot charges are not “railroaded” by Australian Federal Police (AFP) who now control the detention centre.
The concerns were raised as the AFP announced today that all detainees at the Northwest Point centre had been accounted for following mass break-outs and last week’s riots.
In the worst riot on Thursday night, accommodation tents and small buildings were burnt down as police battled rock-throwing rioters with tear gas and “bean-bag bullets”.
…But Refugee Action Coalition spokesman Ian Rintoul said refugee supporters and lawyers were extremely concerned that police were ignoring the legal rights of asylum seekers…
Mr Rintoul told AAP that an Iranian detainee had phoned from the centre to say detainees had determined they would not talk to police without a lawyer present…’ source
A note for Ian Rintoul (formerly a spokesman for the International Socialist Organisation) and his slimy bleeding heart criminal enablers…if you want these barbarian illegal immigrants to have lawyers then keep your stinking little paws out of Australian taxpayer’s pockets and pay for them yourselves. Better still, Australia should deport the whole lot of them and their foul “refugee advocates” as well.
