    I actually think this is a world-wide phenomenon with which Australia is only now catching up. The UK took a sharp turn left with Gordon Brown (after the soft leftism of Tony Blair). The US has done so with the Obamanation, after the soft leftism of Clinton. New Zealand followed the soft leftism of Bolger/Shipley with Komrade Klarkenfuhrer. The only difference between the rest of the world and Aus is that Aus wasn’t first softened up with a “soft” prefix.

      There’s a pretty well-defined urban/country divide in Os, Robert. Gillard’s gang are loathed by country people. Unfortunately, the cities and suburbs are where the votes are, and those people vote with their wallets and with the results of years of indoctrination.
      Urban liberal scum remind me of Groucho’s “those are my principles. If you don’t like them–I have others.”
