‘A FORMER MP has walked free from court after being found guilty of having sex with a 12-year-old girl.
Justice David Porter sentenced former MP Terry Martin to 10 months in jail, wholly suspended.

Martin, 54, was last week found guilty of unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 17 and of producing child exploitation material.
Judge Porter linked Martin’s offending to medication for Parkinson’s disease and accidental inhalation of fairy dust which triggered hypersexual desire and caused him to seek out out 162 sex workers, one of which was the 12-year-old…’              source

    A clue it’s not mentioned in the story.

      He was an Independent I think, Andrei. I don’t know about his previous history though and you’re right–usually when the party isn’t mentioned they’re a Labor MP.
      But increasingly, it seems to me, party affiliation doesn’t matter too much. MPs and senior bureaucrats and businessmen are members of an elite, a “club” which is subject to deferential (and preferential) treatment by the judiciary.

    The Serious Fraud Office’s former chief prosecutor was this morning formally charged with four offences relating to a forged email sent to media organisations.
    Anita Killeen was excused from attending the Auckland District Court today, with the reasons suppressed.
