Death by bureaucracy

This is what it looks like.
For all those clowns who are comfortable with (and vote for) more State interference in our lives in the name of “safety” and “security”. And for those emergency workers who accept the paycheck for doing a supposedly dangerous job yet when lives are on the line will stand around waiting for a clipboard drone to give them permission to act like men.

What kind of pussy-whipped powder-puffs are these services becoming!

Yesterday, I was in slightly deeper water, unblocking a clogged pump intake and I had to abseil down the side of a bank to get to it. On my own, with nobody to hold my hand!

Just the sort of stuff you do all the time in my line of work and no big deal (at least when it is summer)

    • KG says:

Sheesh! No wonder you have trouble getting young guys to take it on, Os. I can imagine what some 24yo, steeped in elf’nsafety would think of that!
Are Western men becoming capons, or what?

  2. Donald says:

The fathers and grandfathers of these heroes did not fly Spitfires, Hurricanes, or Lancasters, they did not participate on D-Day or El Alamein, they were not to be seen on the Western Front, and none would have been in the RN or Merchant Navy.

Undoubtedly, they have inherited the genes which guarantee their very own survival.

  3. Darin says:

Unbelievable, not only the poor response of Fire and rescue but what of the general public? That water is dead calm and not even waist deep, sheesh what are we becoming? Did they at least fish the body out with a pole,or is there a regulation against that too?

    • nominto says:

yeah Darin….a pole = offensive weapon…..they probably had to call out the armed police squad in this sorry story..[and lacked the training anyway  ]

  4. Flashman says:

‘Elf ‘un Suffety has absolutely nothing to do with the welfare and protection of the general public. Its sole purpose is to shield useless bureaucrats from legal liability.

This virus is established and multiplying in NZ.

  5. Kris K says:

Damn! And to think in all my time as an active surf life saver, doing rescues and training off Wellington’s rugged south coast in surf sometimes 3 to 4 metres in height, all I often had was a pair of speedos [swimming trunks],

    Bureaucracy: It’s the arse-covering no-responsibility leftist way.

  6. WAKE UP says:

    Unbelievable.

  7. oswald bastable says:

Al surf lifesaving clubs must immediately cease operations as surf rescues are FAR too dangerous! [insert Tui ad here]

  8. For the average man in the street, it’s not easy to understand that this sort of profoundly stupid and callous indifference started back when enough sheeple listened to the well-intentioned politician who offered to help them and voted for said politician.

As more and more responsibility is transferred from citizen to state, then from subject to nanny-state, the shrill squawking from the subject to the state to protect him also grows. And so increasing amounts of rules and regulations are passed preventing this and stopping that. It doesn’t really work, so even more have to be put in place.

And you get people who won’t and can’t do anything without covering their ass from all angles and you get crap like this happening.

It’ll only change when the populace understands that it must take some responsibility for itself, that the state cannot protect it in all circumstances and therefore should not be nannying it either.
