Teachers

‘Karen Lewis, president of the radical Chicago Teachers Union.
Lewis reminisced about her teaching days, when she would lie to parents when it came time to discuss their child’s performance. She then said – because of her lies – the student became her “hostage” who would do what she wanted.’

hahah the little lady needs a stand-up comedian gig. I couldn’t listen to her but her appearance would certainly be a distracting influence in a classroom.

I may have missed the bit where she said she lies about the kid’s scholastic results. What I heard her say is that there is some benefit to be had from not telling the kid and his parent that he is a little gobshite, at least initially. A parent may think that their kid is a stinker but they still do not want the teacher to say so, better the bemused , incredulity that the kid can sometimes behave and that the teacher likes him. That’s the way to start, at least. What’s wrong with that?

A lot. Parents are entitled to honesty from teachers. If lying is ok, then where do you draw the line?

    • William Stout says:

The problem is character or rather a lack of it. If it is O.K. for the teacher to lie then the child learns that telling a lie is not a bad thing. That deception has it’s uses on the job, in the classroom, and in life itself. If telling a lie in school is good, then telling a lie at home is just as good. We have all been lied to at one time or another and rarely do we appreciate it.

Worse if the parents ever catch on to the fact that they have been lied to then nothing the teacher says beyond that point can be taken as fact without independent verification regardless of the circumstances. This is because the teacher is a liar and the parents have been “played.” The astounding thing about this person’s statement is that she declares herself to be a liar in a public forum and is actually proud to be labeled such. The situation does not get any better as one examines the motive behind the lies.

The teacher seeks to manipulate both the students and the parents via lies. What is the morality at work here? She is certainly not using traditional Judeo-Christian morals. There have been many who have opined on educating children without providing them the benefit of a strong moral character and the end result has always been a direct threat to the social order. History bears this assessment out as truth as does the world in which we live.

You ask what is wrong with it and I answer: much.

Just when you think the American educational system couldn’t get any worse – what with certain school systems like New York City turning out 80% illiterates after 12 years of instruction – it just did…

…and just think – a rogue teacher in California during the 1960s turned his history classes into little Nazis in less than one week…Think of what the socialists can do to kids with a free run of a minimum of twelve years!

We are so SCREWED in this country!!!

Every parent should view this then demand from their children’s teacher the truth. I’m disgusted.

I agree teachers should be honest about kids’ talent, achievement and behaviour but the ground gets a lot murkier when the teacher detests a child (for any reason whatsoever) and then has to deal diplomatically with its parents. There are 50 shades of “honesty” in that situation. That’s what I meant. And some kids are purely detestible and vile or have habits that become unbearable over time …..any honest teacher of any experience will admit this if drunk or forced.
