“Mike wasn’t a kid. He knew that he wouldn’t live forever. He’d had enough brushes with death to understand that a healthy old age was not guaranteed in the contract. He’d been standing next to men who had stepped the wrong way, and fallen. He’d helped pull a man’s body off a concrete footer where he’d been impaled on an uncapped rebar stake. Just two stories down, and dead as a nail. Laughing and joking the minute before. A paragraph in the back of the paper, if that. There but by the grace of God.”

      From Justice Thomas’ dissenting opinion:
‘Justice Thomas also dissented separately, beginning:
Today the Court strikes down two state statutory provisions in all their applications, at the behest of abortion clinics and doctors. That decision exemplifies the Court’s troubling tendency “to bend the rules when any effort to limit abortion, or even to speak in opposition to abortion, is at issue.”
“Our law is now so riddled with special exceptions for special rights that our decisions deliver neither predictability nor the promise of a judiciary bound by the rule of law,” Thomas wrote.
After a thorough analysis, quoting a 1989 law review article from his friend, the late Justice Antonin Scalia, Thomas concluded his 16-page dissent:
Today’s decision will prompt some to claim victory, just as it will stiffen opponents’ will to object. But the entire Nation has lost something essential. The majority’s embrace of a jurisprudence of rights-specific exceptions and balancing tests is “a regrettable concession of defeat—an acknowledgement that we have passed the point where ‘law,’ properly speaking, has any further application.” I respectfully dissent….’

Any CR followers who’ve visited my blog will likely be aware of my admiration and support of Miss Gina Elise and her Pin Ups For Vets Calendar project. When Gina started producing the calendar ten years ago she had nothing except a photographer and a few costumes and wigs. The 2017 calendar will feature not only Gina but many female veterans of the US armed forces. Plus a few male vets too.
Christmas parcels for Australian troops serving abroad is now my principal give-back to the community. And our Diggers, male and female, appreciate the calendar just as much as the American troops.
Sneak peak of next year’s calendar here.

A certain American VP wannabe was seriously injured today when she fell into an uncovered manhole while updating her Native American Facebook profile on a mobile phone.
19 passers-by who witnessed the incident have been hospitalised with laughter-induced injuries, some of them described as “serious” bordering on critical, but totally worth it. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_cool.gif

We hear constantly from the left that law enforcement are the only ones capable of properly using a weapon in an emergency.Yet it’s a fact that 70-80% of the rounds fired by LEO miss their intended target.

      • KG says:

        Yep. Pathetic, isn’t it? http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_unsure.gif

        • Darin says:

Yep and there are all kinds of reasons why.Not enough range time, poor caliber choice(not a fan of 9mm) and poor tactics.

          • Bo Chandler says:

I have some sympathy here. They were working on the reasonable assumption that was wearing a suicide vest. Turning his head and upper body into pulp in the shortest time possible was a reasonable call to make given everyone else’s lives were theoretically at stake.

That bullet fragments killed someone else is regrettable but the idea that they should have waltzed in and turned him off like a light switch with a single round which was guaranteed not to over/under penetrate is not realistic.

My blame for this incident rests squarely on the advocates for Islamic immigration, the limp wristed courts that let a terrorist wannabe walk free and to a lesser extent anyone that has ever participated in the disarmament of my nation.

            Just my two cents.

            • KG says:

There was reason to believe that the backpack contained a bomb. That backpack was riddled with bullets and fragments.
I’m not one for monday-morning critiques, but take it from one who knows the job, this was rank incompetence on several levels. Lack of communication, calls to turn off the lights outside ignored (and then the police claiming afterwards they couldn’t get hold of anybody to turn them off), an inexperienced hostage negotiator etc etc etc..and several clear shots not taken.
And 22 shots?? Excuse me while I laugh my ass off.

              • Darin says:

That’s true and a valid point, but this could have just as easily been a domestic hostage taking by a typical nutcase or criminal,no Mohammad required.
Better tactics like killing the lights as KG mentioned and snipers with orders to take the first open shot regardless of negotiations would be an improvement.
There is also an argument to be made for the use of a tactical shotgun versus pistols or even semi-auto rifles.

All good points, but not a basis by which to hang the men shoved through the door with incorrect tools and policy.

Gave the local cops a demo on how to hit a target at 200 meters with a cap & ball revolver. They had said it could not be done and I took up the challenge.

  4. KG says:

My guess is simply insufficient training, Jamie.
And they’re not exactly “shoved through the door” Bo. Places on those teams are much sought-after.

    • Jamie says:

Insufficient training, no doubt. It still don’t quite gel with me though K.G. Even 12 year old kids playing C.O.D on xbox knows to throw the flash-bangs in first otherwise you blind yourself.

Here you have blokes on the much sought after and top tier team throwing stun-grenades after their own guys have gone in.

      WTF???

          http://www.thenational.ae/world/asia-pacific/australia-ignored-warnings-about-gunman-says-iran

“TEHRAN // Iran repeatedly warned Australia about the criminal past of the perpetrator of the Sydney cafe siege and called for him to be kept under surveillance, top officials in Tehran said.”

Iran’s deputy foreign minister for Asia and Oceania affairs, Ebrahim Rahimpour, said Australia ignored the guidance sent.

“Despite several notifications to the Australian government regarding his criminal background, no attention was paid,” Mr Rahimpour told state television on Tuesday.

“We provided information and asked them to watch this person but unfortunately they did not pay attention.”

By that, I meant that the clowns at the top of the order of influence fuck around with the tac-team’s plans just enough to screw the whole thing to hell.

By “shoved through the door” I mean to say the morons up the chain of command make the situation unworkable and when the shots start ringing the tac team has no choice but to play the hand dealt them.

      • Jamie says:

Granted for sure the clowns at the top, goes without saying. That still doesn’t explain for my mind though why if your team has made the entry and are already inside would you then through throw grenades in after them??
