‘Illegal Immigrants Bear 8% of Children Born in the U.S.
As discussion over whether to end birthright citizenship intensifies, a new study of Census Bureau data reveals that 8 percent of children born in the United States in 2008 were parented by illegal immigrants.
The Pew Hispanic Center, a project of polling organization Pew Research Center, finds that, of the 4.3 million babies born in 2008, roughly 340,000 were born to undocumented aliens. This is double the percentage of illegal immigrants in the U.S., owing in part to the fact that the illegal immigrant population is largely comprised of men and women at birthing age.
In addition, high birthrates among undocumented aliens give that population a similar share of children in the U.S. The study finds that children born to illegal immigrants account for 7 percent of the total population of people under the age of 18, or 5.1 million children. Four million, or 79 percent, of those children were born in the United States, making them U.S. citizens.’         source

…………More interesting, if you start to chart the social relationships between the nominees and their reviewers, you find they are all part of the same push, attend the same lit festivals and, one suspects, nominate each other for prominence and prizes within the tight little circuit of literary gab fests and wankathons.’

‘New York City’s transit agency has approved a bus advertisement that depicts a plane flying toward the World Trade Center’s towers as they burn along with a rendering of a proposed mosque near ground zero.
The ad was paid for by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI), an organisation that opposes radical Islamic influence in the United States. The group’s executive director says she doesn’t find the ad offensive.
The group sued the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to demand it accept the ad, which was approved Monday.’   source

Proposal to fine victims of graffiti
VICTIMS of graffiti could be slapped with $220 fines if they don’t clean up the mess vandals leave on their buildings.
In an effort to crack down on unwelcome street art, the council has proposed new bylaws that would fine owners or occupants of property who do not remove, block from public view or paint over graffiti,
Glenorchy Mayor Adriana Taylor said the bylaws would tackle an ongoing problem.
“Graffiti isn’t a major criminal problem but it does detract from the appearance and tidiness of the area,” she said.
“We are working on a comprehensive scheme to deal with graffiti in Glenorchy, and the bylaws are a vital part of that.”
