‘Stacy Snyder, a trainee teacher in Pennsylvania, had passed all her exams and completed her training with an unblemished academic record until she uploaded an image of herself, wearing a pirate costume and drinking from a cup with the caption: “drunken pirate”.
A colleague saw the picture and reported it, saying that it was unprofessional to potentially expose pupils to photographs of a teacher drinking alcohol.’                 source

This is screwed on so many levels it’s hard to know where to start…….the person who complained would perhaps be better employed addressing the question of why so many teachers have been suspended for sexual misconduct with pupils. They number in the thousands.
Next to that fact, a cup with “drunken pirate” written on it looks a little…um..trivial.

‘Des Moines police are trying to determine what led to a series of attacks outside the Iowa State Fairgrounds over the weekend that included the assault of two police officers.
….Sgt. David Murillo stated in a report on Friday night, “On-duty officers at the fairgrounds advise there was a group of 30 to 40 individuals roaming the fairgrounds openly calling it ‘beat whitey night.’ source

‘A newly discovered type of oil-eating microbe is suddenly flourishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Scientists discovered the new microbe while studying the underwater dispersion of millions of gallons of oil spilled into the Gulf following the explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon drilling rig. And the microbe works without significantly depleting oxygen in the water, researchers led by Terry Hazen at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., reported Tuesday in the online journal Sciencexpress.  source

UPDATE: This post is not an exercise in bashing the Catholic Church–I’m very mindful of all the good people who are Catholics and of the good work the Church does. But the Church is not well served by those who would hide or excuse incidents such as this.
