How’s that “Arab Spring” thing working out?

Not too well, by the look of things. Many of these people are demonstrating against the rise of hardline islamists, and that rise was always inevitable. Anybody with a couple of functioning brain cells knew it, yet more than a few bloggers (you listening, Liberty Scott?) bought into the “rise of democracy in the Arab world” bullshit peddled by ignorant journalists.

. . . amazing the number of supposedly intelligent people who just don’t get it.

Let’s get one thing straight. There WILL BE NO liberal democracy in the Arab world. The conditions for it don’t exist, the culture doesn’t support it, there is no rule of law, no respect for private property rights. Graft corruption is rampant. These regimes survive based in their ability to hand out cash and benefits to supporters, and to suppress dissent.

      Exactly, Angus.
It’s staggering that so many people just don’t get that. I guess the power of ignorance combined with wishful thinking…..

When has ANY Arab/Islamic nation EVER had any real and enduring Western-style democracy???

I’ve said it before, democracy ONLY survives [or comes about in the first place] if founded upon Judeo-Christian principles and values – and even then ONLY when those values are founded upon genuine biblical values: One needs only look at much of the corruption, etc in South American nations to see that J-C values are NOT, in reality, foundational to many of those societies.

And as the West castes off its Christian heritage we see a parallel loss in freedom, liberty and genuine democracy.

Further to what Angus said; there can be no common ground between nations founded upon the death-cult of Islam and genuine democracy – never has, isn’t now, and never will be.
