  1. I’ve never understood the obssession some bloggers have with commenters staying on-topic, and always regarded the post title as a jumping-off point. If a post on the future of electricity generation ends up discussing spaying the family cat..so what?

    • The only problem KG is some of the best stuff is in the comments — even by a thread’s author (Wretchard fer instance) — and it then becomes hard to find unless you have a good memory AND very good cross-referencing system.

    • I’ve noticed that some of the Open house threads stay on topic better than the regular threads

    • Great stuff! I love this place with a passion, VonL, and it’s good to see others feel the same way. That’s my country out there. :whoop :whoop

      • Yeah, but he has to approve the vote even taking place. Then they’ll fall into line whatever steer he gives them.

  2. O.K…..Then let’s play “Be careful what you wish for”……..I remember a few years back coming here, when the one eyed son of a preacher man had inserted himself as British P.M. without so much as a general election. Nobody could stand the man, and he took his Socialists from an impregnable position, to obvious defeat in the 2010 general elections….The pity is though what replaced him……A silver spooned toff, who knew nothing of real people, and because he couldn’t win the election outright, he was also at the bequest of the wishy washy Liberal Democrats……Result……No change….Just more of the same old, from yet another mannequin, looking after the interests of the political classes….David Cameron’s only real appeal with the British people is that he wasn’t Gordon Brown….If Gillard goes via the Aussies forthcoming elections then the political right need to win big, otherwise you’ll get just what you voted for……More of the same…..

  3. Yes RP, you are right.
Camoron has been an absolute tosser, a betrayal of Conservatives and conservative values.
I was amused to see to poll where the UK public decided Margaret Thatcher was their best PM.

  4. Fraudulent “refugees”..the tip of the problem?
‘..Judge Connell said the immigration fraud committed by Ismail, Abdi, Ali and Aden was “premeditated and persistent”.
…Aden and Ali were both given six months’ home detention. The Weekend Herald can reveal that Sahra Ismail and Ali Abdi have also been convicted of benefit fraud receiving about $64,000 more than they should have…’

    • Apart from all the things wrong with these frauds coming here and the inability of our authorities to deal with it………nowhere is the word DEPORTATION mentioned . I wonder why?

      • Deportation is not the answer

We will miss out on the “diversity dividend”….

  5. Hey Down-under:

It’s already May Day there. Any sign in the news of your radicals (#OWS et al.) acting up yet?

    • Not yet, Pascal. The country town we’re living in plans big celebrations, which is weird, considering they’re deeply conservative.
We will be boycotting all events.

  6. The Iranian Ambassador to the UN had just finished giving a speech and walked out into the lobby of the convention center where he was introduced to a U.S. Marine General. They shook hands. As they talked the Iranian said, “You know, I have just one question about what I have seen in America .” The General said, “Well, anything I can do to help.” The Iranian whispered, “My son watches this show called Star Trek and in it there is Chekhov who is Russian, Scotty who is Scottish, Uhura who is black, and Sulu who is Japanese, but there are no Muslims. My son is very upset and doesn’t understand why there aren’t any Iranians, Iraqis, Afghans, Egyptians, Palestinians, Saudis, Syrians, or Pakistanis on Star Trek.”

The General laughed, leaned toward the Iranian ambassador, and whispered back, “That’s because it takes place in the future.”
