  1. When Newman’s done fixing QLD, maybe he might like to take his razor gang to Canberra! How the bloody hell can a train company be employing 12 senior executives all earning northwards of $350k per annum? It just beggars belief what the Beattie/Bligh government did to QLD.

  2. Is this a commuter rail or freighter? If it’s anything like here the commuter train engineers and services make out like bandits because they carry people while the freighters get peanuts which is odd since if the freighters screw up many, many more people die

  3. Look at the areas the increase in employment was in,in the bullshit departments.
If bureacrats don’t want mass sackings then they should be very careful before they build their empires on the back of taxpayers.
As the old saying goes ,socialism is fine until you run out of other peoples money to spend.

    • The biggest problem with bureaucrats isn’t so much what they’re paid, as the useless, crippling paperwork the bastards generate.

      • Ah yes…but then, you employ some specialists in thuggery, no?
        :whoop

          • Nah, Katie just doesn’t understand football in our neck of the woods. Up her way they’re all wrapped up like the Michelin man. It’s like watching boxing at the commonwealth games – there’s so much padding it’s virtually impossible to get hurt.

Katie, football down here is a lot like ice hockey there. It’s only fun if bones are breaking and blood is flying. I mean, why the hell else would yo want to watch a bunch of fully-grown toddlers chase around a faux-pigskin for 90 minutes?

  4. NSW people (tourists and the like) are seen very much as foreigners out where we live. Wankers with 4WD’s with enormous spotlights, giant knobbly tyres and aerials big enough to communicate with Houston, and they never go off the bloody highway.
Oh, and as Gecko just pointed out, they’re often dressed in RM Williams gear, complete with immaculate Akubras. The only people they’re fooling is themselves.
Dunno how they manage to drive, one-handed….

    • Dunno how they manage to drive, one-handed….
easy enough, I would have thought on your dead straight highways

  5. Heh! ‘Straight’ is just half the story–throw in cattle grids, floodways and unfenced paddocks, washouts, roadtrains and numerous other hazards.

    • So the roads have to be straight so one can manage all the other risks?

      • :popcorn pretty much, yeah. That, and there’s little reason for bends and corners.
It’s great country to cruise at 140kmh or more. :whoop

        • you get that when you build your roads in concrete instead of asphalt…

          • Oh yeah? The asphalt road between here and Hughenden routinely launches cars and caravans into low-earth orbit. Lots of nasty little ramps spring up for no apparent reason.

          • Too much snow and ice for asphalt,it crumbles up in fist size chunks after spring thaw.Typical Wisconsin weather,my favorite is Black Ice.One minute your driving then it’s road, ditch, road, ditch, road, road, road, sky, ditch, road

            • might want to consider a few more thermal expansion joints then, especially around nice big sun shields like bridges ;-)

  6. O/T – well, not totally: just spent a week in & around Port Douglas, and loved it. Great scenery, decent temperature (25deg, now back to 10deg in Auckland), good food etc. But the best thing was the people, just lovely and helpful, from the resort staff to the car rental staff to those running tours, even retail staff. Sure, it’s their job, but most went well beyond the minimum to make our stay enjoyable. As a result of course we spent lots of money! And the driving behaviour was so much more courteous than in Godzone. So thanks y’all.

    • :whoop :cheers Glad you enjoyed it, jonno1. According to leftards, Queenslanders are all ignorant redneck racists…. ;-)

      • Not that I saw KG. Also, the Mossman Gorge info centre etc is staffed entirely by indigenous people who also couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful…

Also met a couple who had driven over from Perth in 6 days for a brief visit, really laid back, seemed surprised that I was so impressed with their journey. ;-)
