“Rhodesia (UK /roʊˈdiːʃə/, rə-DEE-shə; US /roʊˈdiːʒə/, rə-DEE-zhə) was an unrecognised state located in southern Africa during the Cold War. From 1965 until 1979, it occupied the region now known as Zimbabwe. The country, based in Salisbury, was considered a de facto successor state to the former British colony of Southern Rhodesia (which had achieved responsible government in 1923).”

    @KG:

What can I say to the undefeated who was on the losing side fighting Communism in the defense of his Republic?

I haven’t none a study of “who lost” Rhodesia, but from my best knowledge it was the politicians and elites of that country – not the soldiers – who allowed “world public opinion” to influence their failed attempt to appease and live beside Communists.

It didn’t work in Rhodesia, and it didn’t work in South Africa, and it sure as hell won’t work in Australia or America!

…And we soldiers of the free world who have fought the good fight against Communism in many lands – and usually defeated them in open battle – understand that today our backs are against the wall…

No more compromise! No appeasement! VICTORY OR DEATH!

And FUCK what “The World” says about what we do to defend our countries!

  3. Flashman says:

The South African government under John Vorster was the cause of Rhodesia’s downfall. At the instigation of that prick Kissinger, the SA’s were induced to apply pressure on Salisbury by withdrawing SAAF helicopter assets and squeezing shipments of ammunition and fuel. The Rhodesian administration was also heavily compromised by informants working for the British as counterintelligence was never a Rhodesian strong suit.

By 1978 large areas of Rhodesia were infiltrated and it was only the incredible success of cross-border operations [such as the Green Leader mission] that kept terrorist numbers down to manageable levels.

The 1980 elections that brought mugabe to power were, of course, rigged and subject to widespread voter intimidation. But the blasted Brits didn’t care one little bit – they just wanted shot of their last nominal responsibility in Africa.

Looking back, one of the most remarkable legacies of this footnote in history is the utter waste and loss to the country created by the White Rhodesian diaspora. In its day, apart from its rather bovine gliding-on public service, Rhodesia was one of the most go-for-it economic development sweet spots on the planet.

All that, and a hell of a lot more besides, Flashy. Layers of deceit and hypocrisy on top of betrayal and opportunism.
What a damn waste of a fine country…and just like SA, the white western supporters and enablers of the blacks have yet to apologize for or even acknowledge the carnage they’re responsible for.

    • mawm says:

Vorsters withdrawal of support was not very popular amongst South Africans. Later on SA was also to be lied to by America and left in the lurch after defeating the Cubans and E Germans in Angola.

  4. Contempt says:

    Thanks for that KG.

  5. KG says:

‘SOUTH African Archbishop Desmond Tutu says he is “devastated” by the Taliban’s shooting of a Pakistani girl who had campaigned for girls’ rights to education..’

But nowhere near as “devastated” by the genocide of white farmers in SA, the rapes and torture of their wives and children…
    The mealy-mouthed hypocritical cunt.

Cock pit conversations and the exchange with Lusaka Tower ,priceless.I love it when a fella takes obvious pride in his work.

nor did I know that you were there-KG–
Thank you-you know how I love true history!

CCS – the white South Africans were sold out by their own politicians when it came to handing power over to the marxist ANC. :rant

Anyone wanting a great read should go to Amazon and download to their Kindle the following: Counter Strike From The Sky: Rhodesia All-Arms Fireforce by Dr J R T Wood.

The same author put out So Far And No Further. This book uses hitherto unaccessed papers held by Ian Smith and traces the road to the declaration of UDI in 1965 by the Rhodesian government after years of being lied to, fobbed off and buggered around by scumbag pommy politicians with the keen participation of their greasy Sir Humphreys. It’s an excellent work, but not an action-read, as it covers the political machinations from the late 1950’s through to 1965 when pommyland was bailing out of Africa. The terms Britain and Good Faith are shown, quite rightly, as two concepts that exist at opposite ends of the Cosmos. [Incidentally the author shows revisionist-history-has-been-so-kind Kiwi Icon Garfield Todd – one time PM of Southern Rhodesia – in his true, rather unsavoury colours. The fella was known to be corrupt at the time – among other things he made a mint of money from land sales by ensuring a rail link went through his ranch.] Also available from Amazon for Kindle.

“.. Kiwi Icon Garfield Todd – one time PM of Southern Rhodesia ..”
Had a rather nice daughter, though, if memory serves.
Thanks for the info Flash. I’ll see if I can get hold of a copy of So Far.

Aah yes, little Judith. Very, very easy on the eye when young, but unfortunately she didn’t age well. Packed on weight, I’m afraid.

She also ended up getting raped by at least one of mugabe’s security goons – or should I say, Heroes of the Liberation Struggle for whom she and her family worked so diligently to bring to power.

      Kismet.

  13. KG says:

Interesting. :popcorn Can’t say I’m grief-stricken to hear that.

    • Flashman says:

Agreed KG. It didn’t bother me in the least when I heard about it.

She wrote a book about her experiences of being detained for stirring the shyte in Rhodesia in the early 1970’s: “The right to say no”. [Dry as dust and I failed to finish it btw.]

An ironic term that I’m sure she used when mugabe’s darling Ray Ban Boyos invaded her personal space.
