NZ: ‘Law Commission pleads with MPs to scrap plans for legislation that would give public servants immunity from lawsuits’
All power, no accountability…
‘A bureaucrat is the most despicable of men, though he is needed as vultures are needed, but one hardly admires vultures whom bureaucrats so strangely resemble. I have yet to meet a bureaucrat who was not petty, dull, almost witless, crafty or stupid, an oppressor or a thief, a holder of little authority in which he delights, as a boy delights in possessing a vicious dog. Who can trust such creatures?’
Marcus Tullius Cicero

In practice they already enjoy an immunity of sorts. If one has the stamina to contemplate suing any government official (or City Hall for that matter) the respondent simply argues the case at leisure and as abstrusely as they can muster…their case can be drawn out ad-nauseum as guess who pays their costs? YOU do! I do!
I thought the essential difference was that between indemnity and immunity, Cad? Or do I have it all wrong?
Well, for the purposes of dorking us with our own money the difference is irrelevant. Immunity is where a party cannot be sued in general, but an indemnity can be claimed essentially on a case by case basis. Again, the immunity which presently exists is derived from a taxpayer funded strength of position. Makes one puke…eh? (Where’s the vomit icon when you need it?)
I keep a stash of them.
