Pop was there, with his radio team, ground attack air controller, RAF Second Tactical Air Force.
RIP Pop. Not a day goes by when I don’t think of you.
Same here, Flash. My dad landed at ‘Sword’ beach and fought his way across France and Belgium.
Dad was there until the end of hostilities. Wouldn’t talk about it and never forgot it.
My Uncle Abraham was killed in Normandy. D-Day plus 4. Great Guy everyone tells me. I would have liked to know him.
They were a special generation of men.
That they were,my question is will there be anymore like them?
Thanks for noting D-Day. For maybe the first time, it had slipped my mind completely. The barber who gave me my first haircut around 1946 was not at D-Day but was in soon after from “The English Channel all the way to Germany.” Over many years I heard his war story, killing German boys in uniform, an old man at night in a cemetery, the Battle of the Bulge and on. He always noted that he learned how to run backwards in the war and how the army crawled all the way on their stomach. He left years ago but I still remember everything about him. He was from Alabama but settled in South Carolina after the war.
Dad was four years in the Pacific-
Uncle -Army-Air Corps/ turned into Air Force- flew several planes including the P-38-
Thank you for the reminder-KG-

And it looks like we have to do it all over again but this time at home. Government against the People. The never ending story.
Yep – a special day.
