    Heard a ‘news’ report on NewsTalk ZB at 11:00 this morning. Seems its the Republicans that are refusing to negotiate on the threat of a Government shutdown in the US. To support their claim they quoted one of the most far left members of the Congressional Black Caucus (a Democrat) saying how the Republicans didn’t care how the poor were going to suffer. No statement from a Republican, no mention of HBSC’s refusal to negotiate the debt ceiling (remember ‘Raising the debt ceiling is no raising the debt’?), nothing about Harry Reid’s automatic dismissal of every Republican offering.

    Don’t get me wrong, I think a lot of the Republican establishment needs to go but it’s no wonder Kiwis have such an inaccurate perception of the US if that is what they hear.

      I found the reporting on U.S. affairs when we lived in NZ to be an effing disgrace.
      They went out of their way to find the loopiest sources possible and I don’t think I ever saw a fair and balanced bit of analysis concerning U.S. politics.
      As confirmed (although often unconscious) socialists, Kiwis are baffled by and terrified of the concept of true liberty.
