   They looked at America as a whole which isn’t the best way, i suspect that in the gun-fearing states of America, Chicago anyone, the homicide rate is much higher than in states where they respect the rights of citizens to look after themselves.

   It’s also interesting to note that Australia has low levels of gun ownership and low homicide rates as well. Then again we don’t have a widely accepted culture of violence, illegal immigration, drug gangs like in America and we don’t sit around all day tearing ourselves apart over imagined racism.

   We also don’t have a president who weasels guns to criminals across the border so they can use them to kill people for his own political purposes. Makes such a difference.

   The distribution of gun crimes in America almost exactly mirrors the distribution of a feral black underclass.
   As does the “culture of violence”–which is not at all “widely accepted”.
   Subtract black urban crime from the American stats and the country is remarkably law-abiding and peaceful.

   I can’t recommend John Lott’s “More Guns, Less Crime” highly enough. It blows the myths surrounding America’s gun culture out of the water, using impeccable statistical sources.
   (unlike the Brady zealots, for example, who use 14-21 year-old black gang killings to pad out the numbers of “children who are victims of guns”. *spit*)

   One of the guys at work moved down here from the peoples republic of Taxachuscetts a couple years ago.Hunting season is about to kick off next week here and he was asking where he needed to go register for a hunting permit and to buy and register a rifle.
   I told him,no need to register anything,go to the gun shop,pick out the rifle you want,fill in the blanks on the online NICS background check,pay the $20 transfer fee on the new rifle and your done.Hunting license any sporting goods store in town,$25 for a one year license.
   He could not believe it was that easy.I said yep,and you don’t see piles of bodies littering the street like the gun grabbers claim either,even after we passed open carry last year.

   I looked up gun death statistics on the net a few months ago, and I found the United States had the 11th highest rate of deaths by firearm worldwide. They were immediately behind the Philippines, and the number one spot is held by, (drum roll, please), South Africa. However, we never seem to hear the bleaters and brayers crying out for more gun control in those two countries. Why is that?

     Phil,they play fast and loose with those numbers by including ALL gun deaths lumping together with murder,suicide,accidents and justifiable homicide(self defense and police shootings).

     Of the countries never mentioned,high on that list is Mexico with 20+ deaths per 100,000.Mexico has had strict gun control for years and also a crime rate that is off the charts.

   It’s not really gun death statistics that matter, is it? The homicide rates, regardless of the method used is what matters. And that’s a cultural thing.
