  1. “I can’t believe this gestapo crap. It’s like 1984!”
    “You’ve read the book?”
    “Umm, what?”
    “1984… The book. George Orwell?”
“Oh. I thought it was just…like…y’know… a saying.

    Actual conversation several years ago.

  2. Second to top rated comment on the article.

“Most “Big Brother” viewers I have spoken to on the subject do not even know the origin of the phrase ……….”

  3. Hardly surprising is it, given what passes for “educayshun” by leftist teachers…

  4. Actually, the concept of people being too willing to give up their personal info and compromising their privacy in the process is a far better dystopian novel fit for Brave New World.

  5. Lest we forget: 1984 was written in 1948 when Orwell was working at the BBC and Labour under Attlee was establishing the welfare state.

The Party is the Labour Party. Big Brother was Attlee then and Cunliffe now. And Samuel Goldstein is John Key, and Labour’s visceral hatred of Key comes from the same place such visceral hatred always does.

    • I’ve no idea why Labour supporters hate John Key–he’s much closer to being a socialist than a conservative.

      • It’s kabuki theatre. They know he’s the best Labour Party PM in a decade. No need for a Labour-led government when a National-led one is busy implementing all Labour’s policies.

Yep–even some of the the pro-maori policies Klarkula rejected as too extreme.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif

  6. If for nothing else, Key ought to be publicly flogged for secretly flying a maori to the U.N. to sign NZ up to the indigenous peoples codswallop. No consultation.
    Arrogant prick.

    • National has burned a lot of bridges, and so has John Banks who has decided to stand down. So we’ll have a by-election in Epsom and I can’t think of anyone I want to vote for.

        • We don’t have that option here in Australia KG. If you don’t get your name marked off at a polling booth then they send you a $50 fine. If you don’t pay the fine they will cancel your drivers licence even though you have NOT broken any road rules or laws. I have letters to prove it and that was for a local council election. They use Extortion like it is a good thing.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_wacko.gif
