In the throes of moving. Again.

Which was always the plan. Into a 50’s farmhouse. It needs a paint and tidy up, but…no close neighbours, no noise, no street lights.

      • You’re quite close to that human zoo known as Palmerston North! (Or perhaps it is a game-park?) Bring a shot-gun!

      • Ahh, ok!

Anyway – it’s great to have you here in the “Shaky Isles”.
I imagine the cold winters will take some getting used to for you but there are things that offset those. Nice countryside, fewer droughts, fewer people in the “religion of peace”……

I keep an eye on the immigration figures here and there are quite a few people from Australia coming here. Great to have them here too! Quite a few coming from Europe as well.

        • Thanks, Thor. We’re adjusting to the weather surprisingly well. Helped maybe by burning a couple of tons of firewood since we arrived.
The green countryside is taking some getting used to! And the lack of wildlife. Everybody we’ve met so far has been friendly and cheerful, and that’s a big plus.
          But……..I’m a little homesick already. It’ll pass.

        • Btw, speaking of the “shaky isles”, here’s the Geonet website where you can check out the size of any quakes that you feel –
          http://www.geonet.org.nz/quakes

          It’s a *great* site!

You’ll get used to the occasional quake anyway – I think you’re in one of the quieter seismic areas. Napier has already had its big one in 1931 so you’ll be fine for the foreseeable future I reckon.

  1. Woodville?

Did take your own banjo? Or does one get allocated to you when you move in? LOL

  2. Well, I dunno I dunno…..
Seein’ as how i got the musical ability of a flatworm I might just haveta take ter cookin’ up possum stew and chewin’ terbacca.
(and leerin’ at Ellie-May through bernoculars)

    • Hahahaha! In country like that, in Oz, an ordinary station sedan would often as not do what the Unimog’s doing.
What we need is a boat, but circumstances have ruled that out.

  3. No sooner (almost) had Thor42 given us a link to a quake site, and we get a 5.5 quake quite close to here.
It certainly made the desk and the Mac rock a bit. http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

  4. I was in an earthquake once while stationed in the Philippines at Clark AFB in during 1968.

It knocked me out my bed, it did :!:

Fortunately, all the building at Clark were built to withstand earthquakes, so we had only a few minor injuries.

Manila, about 50 miles south of us got knocked about pretty bad…numerous deaths and injuries. Ruby Towers, an upscale apartment building, collapsed and killed hundreds of people in their sleep.
