“Not possible”, we were assured..

Oh yeah?
Investigators warn airplane computers could be hacked
US Government officials have fears that a terrorist with a laptop could sit among passengers on an airplane and take control of it via Wifi

The same Internet access now available on most commercial flights makes it possible for hackers to bring down a plane, a US government watchdog has warned.
The finding follows New Zealand Aviation Security general manager Mark Wheeler telling an airports conference last year that cyber threats to aircraft were one of the new wave of risks his organisation was monitoring here.
He said modern jets have around 60 external antennae that could be used by terrorists to damage or take over a plane…’

  1. When they say it can’t happen – I say it already has,
when they say it’s not that bad – I say it’s worse
when they say don’t worry – I worry
Opposite day is how I live life now

I’ve known passenger planes can be hacked for awhile now. Question: Can US fighter jets/drones be hacked???

I am sure they will say no

    • That one that landed itself on an Iranian air strip was obviously a one in a billion malfunction.

  2. Listen once again to Dr Kathlene Fisher give her talk at the DARPA conference concerning the security in embedded systems-

The ability to hack into industrial systems is a much bigger problem than we are being told. There are some industrial and municipal facilities where bringing in an unauthorized cell, laptop or zip drive is a very serious offense for that reason.

      • …..it’s a simple numbers game, KG
Most planes don’t fall out of the sky.

        ps
I’ve never flown (fear of flying). If I can not get there by car or boat, I do not go while the numbers say that flying is much safer. ;-)
