‘The warming scare will not die – despite the cost and the evidence – because the Left needs it
There has been no real warming of the atmosphere for 17 years. There has been no increase in cyclones, and little evidence of a worldwide increase of droughts. Most of the low-lying Pacific and Indian ocean islands we were once warned were drowning are either stable or growing in size. The world’s main food crops have had record harvests. The Arctic has not melted away, after all, and the Antarctic sea ice has been at record levels. Our dams are as full as ever.
In short, the catastrophe that warmists and our top scientific bodies have warned of for years has not come. It is now doubtful it will ever come…’
I don’t expect the collectivists to relinquish climate change any time soon. It is the only pseudo-catastrophe hit upon in the last century that has the capacity to influence every area of society. Only a world war would be more pervasive (but much harder to control, unless you are big brother)
I can’t see them giving it up either, MacD. They’ll absorb the ridicule and evidence to the contrary and simply push ahead with their agenda regardless.
Only economic collapse or a taxpayer revolt could stop them.
I’ve got a funny update. Griff and I on kiwiblog have been arguing over this. I’ve brought up the fact that your electricity usage is just a small fraction of proposed global warming, so it makes no sense to me, that people put a tax on electricity and that’s all. It seems like a total rip-off. This is now his response:

meat loaf I already informed you
The nz environment is not the issue it is the increasing co2 in the atmosphere everyone in the world shares.
Our electricity is supplied by mostly renewable energy. around 80%.
You getting a new fridge is not going to do much to reduce emissions of co2.
Most of our personal carbon emissions are from transport. Either for us or for the goods we use .
The average kiwi is paying.
Carbon price $5.30 ton Our emissions 7.2 tones per capita.
$38.16 a year.
woop de do.
That would be less than the cost of administrating your idea.
ps sorry for being totally of topic.
So their we have it, now after me telling him my ideas, he’s saying that electricity usage makes little difference. The aspect we were debating is how bout the tax we are paying for electricity goes into an account in our name. And when we need a more energy efficient fridge, the tax we’ve paid can be used for it.
Now I’m not saying that the ETS is good. I’m just being smart and showing people this ETS is not doing a darn thing for the environment.
For those who want to check out to see I’m not making it up it’s under: ‘Mcivor on Euthanasia’, on kiwiblog.
It was never meant to anything for the environment, Warren. It’s simply a new taxation stream.
It’s possible to sell crap in a bag nowadays if you label that bag “for the children” or “for the environment”.
KG, this is exactly my point. I’ve now started up a third approach. It used to be your either a climate advocate or a denier. Now I’ve shown, that you can simply say, this is not doing a thing for the environment. Al Gore used to say if you don’t agree, you are a denier, now I’ve proved him wrong. And that’s why Griff, is in a panic now. Oh, the reason this was under Euthanasia, is Griff hates Christians, and says only those who believe in God are irrational nutcases, who don’t agree with voluntary Euthanasia. So that’s why, I take on his other ideas in front of other people.
