As I see it, Fox made the (all to frequent) mistake of most media outlets that an expert in one field (in this case forensics) makes someone an expert in another( i.e. guns). But, yes, stuck on stupid!
The accepted definition of expert is anyone with a suit and briefcase that’s more than five miles from home
