Is it possible and what will the ramifications be if a Convention of the States is called and is successful?

Via American Thinker

For those not familiar-

A fourth branch of government was created by Article V of the Constitution, superior to the other three.  It consists of 7,382 voting members, distributed in the 50 States.  In order to act, this fourth branch, which I call the Federal Assembly, must organize itself into a two-thirds supermajority of the States in order to make a proposal.  Majorities in both houses of a state legislature in 34 states must agree on the subject matter to be addressed by an Amendment Convention.  And then, once the Amendment Convention agrees on the language of the proposed Amendment, an even more challenging three-fourths supermajority of states is required to adopt it.

    Are we doing 1860/61 again?

    1. A House Divided.

    2. The election of a president totally unacceptable to the Democrats – A Republican, no less, oh shades of Lincoln!

    3. Rising civil violence and burning of the American flag by Democrats.

    4. Rising cries for secession – California has secession on the ballot – Will California take the role of South Carolina in 1860 by leaving the Union in 2017?

    5. Convention of States in 1861 that failed to stop CW1.

Ominous parallels with 2016 and soon 2017….

Opening up a massive re-write of the Constitution is like venturing into a high voltage switchbox with the power still on. Given that even the “stupid party” has a recent history of things like gun confiscation for being accused of domestic violence and “reforming” immigration to allow 3 million Mexicans every year I wouldn’t trust them. A far safer method is to make sure Trump appoints strict constitutionalists for the next 2 or hopefully 3 Supremes. The Constitution doesn’t need open heart surgery, it just needs people who care for it in charge of it’s interpretation.

Exactly – If it ain’t broken don’t fix it is my motto!

In fact, our current highly centralized European style of federal government could not have happened without the restriction of the power of the states by having U.S. Senators elected by popular vote – and the introduction of a federal income tax in 1913 under Democrat Progressive President Woodrow Wilson – a leading white racist of the era – by means of constitutional amendments done in a highly questionable manner by Democrat operatives.

I say we repeal all constitutional amendments except for the first ten called, “The Bill of Rights.”

“But Ronbo, what about the amendments forbidding slavery and the right for women to vote?”

Those matters would be decided by the various states, but do you think any of the 50 states would forbid the right to vote for women or reintroduce black slavery?

It would never happen…not even California is that crazy. :-)

I just saw this at the Free Republic website: The Democommies plan an all out assault against the Electoral College:

We may not be in a shooting civil war, but we sure as hell are in a blood-less civil war….

No. Make America great again by reinstalling law & order. This has worked well overall for a few hundred years. Simplify what we have. Too many cooks spoil the stew.
