    I got into the hobby after being traded in by the ex and then getting a biggish redundancy but wish I’d never spent the money as I didn’t really have the time and space to indulge in it. Trying to live a childhood dream that never became reality as a youngster can be foolish and expensive even without the continual insults centered on pedophilia. I’m so pleased that Rod’s layout looks fantastic and is functionally finished – well done that man.

      It can be an expensive hobby – no doubt the owner of the layout featured found that no problem. I have been a model railroader for as long I can remember – but like you, life’s requirements saw me do the other things to to keep my head above water to what I would like to have done.

      Now that I am retired I have found a renewed interest in all things railroading, and to keep the cost down, I now buy fairly inexpensive kits to put together or scratch build my own models that I fancy. I don’t have anywhere near the layout that Stewart has managed to accumulate, and nor could I afford to build such a layout, but what I find relaxing and absorbing in such a hobby, is the satisfaction it gives me, in creating a whole new world of my choosing – and I believe that is why many take to modelling whatever it is that takes their fancy.

    Does it occur to Westerners, and Americans in particular, that this event — and those in Hong Kong, Venezuela, etc. — are the consequence of people recognizing they’ve nothing left to lose?

    Can we thank God we are still so comfortable that it hasn’t come to that for us? If so, then it would be best that we keep Him in mind. It sure looks like we sorely need His help in reversing our trend that seems heading in the direction of this story.

      Seems Trump’s sanctions against Iran are biting, and biting hard! Along with North Korea, Trump has now effectively neutralized two of the C_A controlled rogue states.

      I can’t confirm it, but After Cyclone Tracy obliterated much of Darwin back in December, 1974, shoot to kill orders were given to police on finding looters. At least that was the rumor doing the rounds at the time, and taken very seriously, by those of us who were up there cleaning up the mess.

      I can’t see those kind of orders happening today!
