FEMA and most states have information on storm safety. Strong winds provide a strong stress in verical walls and an amazing amount of “uplift” on even flat roofs. Secure what you can on the structure of your home and/or business. Various agencies and “Simpson Strong-Tie” have details. Note that Texas Tech investigates surface penetration resistance by using an “air cannon” to fire lengths of 2×4 at the surface (wall, door, etc). Closing the blnds and the shutters will not matter for a near-by tornado. Once there is an opening, there can be destructive pressures created that could destroy an entire structure. These events are rare, but devastating. A bit of planning may keep you and yours safe.

The more I look into it, the more sense an Earth Berm house makes. Not just for storm survivability, but also heating/cooling costs.
