‘An award-winning neurosurgeon has sparked a furious debate after offering people the chance to watch him perform live brain surgery.
Sydney-based Charlie Teo has offered people the opportunity to spend a day with him as he treats patients and carries out surgery for £5,000 at charity auctions.
The flamboyant surgeon, 53, has been accused of turning his profession into a ‘spectator sport’ and risked intruding on patients’ privacy.
…Dr Teo was awarded the Order of Australia this week for pioneering keyhole surgery techniques for brain cancer.’ source
A “furious debate”? Hardly…just a few fossils who object to what he’s doing and who are most likely more concerned with the mystique and dignity of the profession than the end result of the great work the man does. The patient privacy angle is bullshit–any patient would surely have the right to decline a spectator’s presence.
Good onya, Charlie! May you live long and prosper.
