It is NOT “free”.

‘Nats’ under-sixes health pledge
Children under the age of six are to get free after-hours healthcare.’

There is no such thing as “government’s money” and there is no such thing as “free healthcare”. Besides, families with children are already getting welfare via the “Working For Families” program. What that means is that people without families are working to support other people’s families. (And childcare and education and a plethora of other “family” programs.) So those who make the decision not to have a family are nonetheless forced to support those who breed regardless of whether they can afford to raise children.

So those who make the decision not to have a family are nonetheless forced to support those who breed regardless of whether they can afford to raise children.

The merits or otherwise of this policy may lie in the eye of the beholder but because most of us are all doomed to age and become decrepit there is a need to produce new generations to support us in our dotage and those who do not breed will get their wrinkly old dirty botties washed by the children and grandchildren of those who did.

So without somebody putting their time effort and resources into raising the successor generations we would all be destined to spend our declining years stewing in our own shit.

There is no point in aiding and abetting the breeding of a stoneage sub-species whose upper quartile intellectual potential is wiping the arse of old people. There will always be a sten of the more advanced species who will be best suited to lower skilled work. Best we invest in those people who are trainable.

That’s the obvious response to my post, Andrei–and it’s shot full of holes.
Do you really think the dysfunctional, unwanted (except as income generators) offspring of some third-generation DPB slag are going to grow up to become useful members of society? I don’t.
I absolutely agree that we need solid, functional families in order to provide for the future, but indiscriminately subsidising those who breed sure as hell isn’t the way to do it. The massive tax burden carried by productive Kiwis would-if sensibly reformed-allow them to provide for themselves in their old age.
On one hand, governments rip tax money off the productive in order to pay the no-hopers, and on the other they’re busy destroying the traditional family unit. The unit which is the best, the only hope for a prosperous future.
“So without somebody putting their time effort and resources into raising the successor generations ..”
Oh yeah…..take a look around some of the shit-holes in NZ and see just how much time, effort and resources are being put into raising those generations. Millions of taxpayer dollars being spent of near-feral lowlifes to subsidise their housing, medical care and booze and smokes while their repulsive offspring run riot.
Decent families, given some carefully targeted tax-relief could do a fine job raising kids. ( Most of them do, despite the crippling burden placed on them.) And they could prioritize their spending in ways which they judge most effective, instead of some shiny-arsed leech doing it for them–and churning that money through various bureaucracies until every hard-earned dollar is worth about 35c.

  3. KG says:

In short, the aged could afford to pay for their own botty-washers if the State hadn’t ripped money off them all their lives and given it to scumbags.
And an elegant demonstration of the uselessness of subsidizing the useless is the claim that we need more immigrants to provide for the future.

    • MK says:

Exactly, and from what we’ve seen, those raised on welfare, free money etc usually pass the same crap onto their children, 3rd generation welfare anyone?

I know it’s not all of them, but it’s most of them. So good luck trying to get one of these parasites to help you off the toilet in your old age.

Paying for my own health care and sending the sprog to a private school means that I have paid twice over for them. I hope to fund my own retirement (who knows when it’ll be means tested) and so will be paying twice for it. So, with all the moochers living off my dollar, there is not much left over for me.

Still, in my lifetime, the Key government reduction of the top tax rate is the first reduction in tax that I have ever had. (We won’t mention how every successive government has reduced my wealth by devaluing the buying power of the dollar).

    • Andrei says:

I’m not arguing the merits of this policy, Webwrat.

Being a patriarchal male who has raised 4 kids and invested at least a million dollars (after tax) as well as thousands of hours into the process, I bristle slightly when those who do put their efforts into what is the most important of all human economic activities are slammed as being parasitic on those who don’t – e.g people like Helen Clark and Chris Carter, who are too self centered to realize the importance of children to the future!

      • KG says:

If you persist in regarding it as a right to have other people subsidize your perfectly praiseworthy efforts, Andrei then you’re indistinguishable from those who regard theft from the public purse as a “right”.
Don’t pretend you had a family as some kind of public-spirited urge–people are programmed to have children and raise families and they do it for their own satisfaction and fulfilment.
Yes, children are important for the future but let those who like them, have them and raise them. It’s not some God-given right to steal from those who choose not to do so.
The future of society would only be my business if I had some say in it. And I don’t.
The lowest apparatchik at the local council, every damn politician and leeching bureaucrat has a say, but I don’t. So let them look after the future–them and people who delude themselves that what they do personally will make the slightest difference.
(and I don’t regard perfectly decent people who raise families as “parasitic” when they get some assistance and tax breaks. But there are a hell of a lot of parasites attached to those breaks and that assistance and those I do object to.)

        • Cadwallader says:

Having children, if you have half a brain, is a personal choice. Science has practically made unwanted pregnancies obsolete, unless you are a fuck-head or a deliberate parasite.
It may be that as a society we need to value children as who they are and what they should become, rather than as financial vehicles for those who are devoid of personal attributes.
If a government was to foster the ethic of parenthood rather than the commerce of parenthood we’d all be better off. This is presently not happening, the problem is, whiteys are not replacing themselves through birth rates, while those who hate and leech are. This is objectionable and ultimately unsustainable. Any policy which fosters parental support rather than parental dependance is not without virtue.

            On parenting:-

Study Finds Every Style Of Parenting Produces Disturbed, Miserable Adults

SANTA ROSA, CA—A study released by the California Parenting Institute Tuesday shows that every style of parenting inevitably causes children to grow into profoundly unhappy adults. “Our research suggests that while overprotective parenting ultimately produces adults unprepared to contend with life’s difficulties, highly permissive parenting leads to feelings of bitterness and isolation throughout adulthood,” lead researcher Daniel Porter said. “And, interestingly, we found that anything between those two extremes is equally damaging, always resulting in an adult who suffers from some debilitating combination of unpreparedness and isolation. Despite great variance in parenting styles across populations, the end product is always the same: a profoundly flawed and joyless human being.” The study did find, however, that adults often achieve temporary happiness when they have children of their own to perpetuate the cycle of human misery.

If all else fails, blame your parents…Frued did.

I can only imagine a Nancy Pelosi-type of person being responsible for such a study.

            • KG says:

 That beggars belief!! So, according to their “logic”, the study authors themselves must be “profoundly flawed and joyless human beings”.
So why should anybody take the slightest notice of this crock of shit?
Whats the agenda of the California Parenting Institute?

Damn! – and here I was thinking it was because we were all sinful fallen creatures who, in the main, are divorced from relationship with our Creator.

I can see I’m going to have to totally re-work my thinking on this issue

[Just another BS social ‘science’ study to ignore]

Why stop there, why not all ages, free BMWs, play stations, beach front properties, crack and whores for life too. I mean it’s all free f***ing money isn’t it. Bastards.

A vote for National is a vote for the Maori Party.

  7. Darin says:

It’s the same with any “government”program-if you want more of something subsidise it,if you want less of something tax it.

If you want more bastard children and unwed mothers increase the welfare hand out. It’s simple math, for what welfare pays here per child a girl in high school has little chance of finding a job that pays better than having a baby.Few jobs pay that much, for doing so little for so long. There simply is more incentive to be bare foot and pregnant than to be married and working.

If you want less of the productive class, simply tax them to pay for the unproductive and you will have less of them at the same time.

The answer to both conditions is to simply quit paying for bastard children. If we did that there would be a large clapping sound heard for months from all the knees slamming closed.

  8. WAKE UP says:

Those non-tax paying, benefit-living anti-Wall Street protesters haven ‘t managed to figure out where their benefit money comes from yet.

    Absolutely.
The left has been spectacularly successful in forcing us to tolerate the intolerable and the previously unthinkable. Oppose homosexual marriage, children produced solely for the purpose of collecting welfare, sodomy, theft and fraud -and you’re an “intolerant, unsophisticated nazi”.
They’ve successfully overturned most of the bedrock principles of Western civilisation and we persist in trying to reason with the bastards, as though they’re simply mistaken, rather than pure evil.

  11. Sally says:

What is so galling about National with this election bribe, is they have moaned continually at how Labour left the books in a mess (which was in the main due to Labour spending the kitty in its last few months). National are no different to Labour, in fact I would say they are much worse. One wonders if this would have been announced if they had not taken a hit with Rena etc.
