the rise of a barbarian class:

Peter Hitchens, on the desecration and pillaging of war memorials:
‘..These metal thieves are no better than grave-robbers, and we have bred and raised them among us. These sombre and thoughtful shrines are not glorifications of war, but memorials to beloved people who went to their deaths in the belief that they were saving civilisation.
It seems that they failed.’

  1. Forget the scumbag thieves they’ll always be around. Take away their market and make sure that anyone who receives stolen goods knows that they will be spending lots of time in a cold dark place. This should apply from to scrap metal dealers to kids who buy a car radio that fell off the back of a truck.

    • The corrupt politicians, the elite, the big banks, etc. Those are the leaders of the gang. That is the real barbarian class. That is the mafia. .They create this to create chaos and fear. so they can ‘save’ us. Of course there is a price to pay.

  2. A bronze war memorial might as well have a sign saying “Free – help yourself”.

I’m surprised that it’s taken this long for the scrappies to focus the collectors on this source of raw material. But that’s the poms for you.

    • Yeah, NZ was obviously a world-leader in yet another field, eh? I seem to remember Jewish graves being desecrated and bronze plaques being stolen for scrap in Wellington years ago.

      • KG – my mother’s plaque was one of those stolen for scrap. Luckily most were recovered [from New Plymouth IIRC] before they were melted down for scrap.

You can’t get much lower than taking plaques from cemetaries and war memorials. Yet another example of how depraved and godless much of society has become.

  3. Today is Rememberance Day, 11/11/11. My grandfather fought in the Great War and again in WW2, being invalided out shortly after Alamein. I have always been proud of him and will never tolerate any act of disrespect towards these men who served.
