Thank you indeed, nothing but respect from this Yank!

  2. The Gantt Guy says:

Thank you indeed. From a Kiwi ashamed his country has basically become Europe to Australia’s USA, relying on your fine armed forces for our protection.

  3. Robertvdl says:

What I don’t understand is why these fine men and women fight for freedom in a foreign country for countries ( Australia, the USA, the Netherlands ,etc) that every day look more like communist russia or nasi germany. What freedom are they fighting for ? Please don’t get me wrong, I have nothing but respect for these men and women.

      Excellent question, Robert!

I happened to be in the hospital at Clark, AFB in the Philippines watching the Armed Forces television in a ward full of soldiers wounded in the Tet Offensive of 1968, when the football game was interrupted by Leftist Pig President Johnson announcing that the Vietnam War – in which we had been kicking major Commie butt and winning – was to be ended by “peace talks” in Paris!

Every soldier in that ward knew we had been stabbed in the back by traitors and that our blood had been spilled for nothing. Then the eruption as bed pans, glasses and anything else we could find was thrown at the television set that was quickly broken. The hospital staff was most upset about our “mutiny” and sent the Air Force police in to restore order. They were greeted with cheers and asked to “Fly to Washington and shoot that son-of-a-bitch Lyndon B. Johnson.”

So why did the American soldier put up with treason in high places for another five years during which we tore the living guts out of the Vietnamese Communists in a war everyone believed a “lost cause?” Simple. American soldiers are freedom fighters. We were of the same thin red line as the liberty loving American Revolutionary War troops. We don’t give up, we never surrender! Six times the 101st Airborne Division assaulted Hamburger Hill and six times the Commies pushed us back, but on the seventh attack, Old Glory flew proudly at the top.

This happened in 1969 – a year after Traitor Johnson said we lost the war.

My hometown Eindhoven was liberated by the 101st Airborne Division . We still celebrate that day Sept. 18. The Eagle is still a symbol of freedom in Eindhoven.

HBO did a mini-series on the 101st in WWII called “Band of Brothers” that had many scenes filmed in Holland with real Dutch people as extras.

This series is widely available on DVD at public libraries and at Amazon and I highly recommend it.

The 101st Airborne were the only American troops to fight in the liberation of Holland from the Nazis – the bulk of the Allied forces were British, who took major casualties, especially the “Red Devil” paratroops of the British 1st Airborne that was almost destroyed at Arnhem.

This terrible battle is re-enacted in “A Bridge Too Far” that proves once again that infantry alone does not do well against armor without support.

      • great response-Ronbo!

          Too right!

        • Ronbo says:

Thanks for the kind words, Carol, as I’m used to death threats and profanity from some of my readers.

But like my dad said – a WW II veteran – “If you live to old age and not one person wants to kill you, why son, you have done nothing important in your life.”

          1. First they ignore you.

          2. When that doesn’t work, they make fun of you.

          3. “Still around?” Next they curse you.

          4. Seeing that curses don’t work, they threaten to kill you.

          5. Finally YOU WIN!

  4. KG says:

I’ve been asking myself the same question, Robert.

  5. this USA citizen is wondering why any of our BEST are fighting un-declared “wars’ (thus-un-Constitutional) anywhere-
I want our US troops out of everywhere-Europe -Japan-Korea-et al—and I’m sure you in NZ and Australia feel the same—
as to TSA-a ruse – to intimidate the tax paying citizen – using the marxist concept ‘for your own good’ …

  6. Ronbo says:

It was my great good luck to have served along side the Aussies during the Vietnam War – a first class professional army!

BTW, Australia is the only country in the world who has sent troops to all of America’s wars post WWII.

  7. KG says:

Thanks Carol, that’s very much appreciated.
