NZ Labour candidate: That socialist Utopia is just around the corner. Again.

‘..Mr Cunliffe said he had spoken to former Prime Minister Helen Clark since announcing his Labour leadership candidacy, but would not reveal the contents of that conversation.
“What I will be really clear about is that the change is about the future. It is not about the Clark era and is not about the previous administration.”
Despite being a minister under the Clark administration, Mr Cunliffe believed he did represent the change the party needed…’
What this prick doesn’t realise is that the NZ voters have just redecorated the place–and they prefer their socialism in light blue (with a wide streak of yellow) nowadays.
So his connection to the previous gang of opportunists, liars and thieves isn’t of much interest to the Kiwi voters–they now have another gang of opportunists, liars and thieves to give them the illusion of democracy.

    They will do away with a couple of policies, and when everyone gets sick of Blue, the media will trumpet Red again and they will take back their ‘rightful’ place.

    No wonder they feel they are entitled to it, because for eighty years the media have treated them like they are. What is the chance of any other party forming the next major party of Government, other than National or Labour? Because we need to be able to create that condition, where National and Labour coalesce to make one grand old left wing party, after something genuinely on the right has become the Government.

      Which is why I’d love to see an end to the bickering among rightists over what are often trivial differences of opinion and see them get behind the Conservative Party.

    Conservative Party a misnomer if ever there was one just another bunch of Socialist Christians.
    As one their candidate confessed they are Socialist Conservatives an oxymoron if ever there was one.
    Like the rest of the New Zealand population there is not much going on behind the eyes.

    Maggy Thatcher would probably chunder at the thought of these people calling themselves conservatives. Wet, wet, brain dead wannabees. Another word stolen as bad as the N.Z. National Socialists calling themselves Tories and ACT calling themselves Liberals.

    Wait for the “perfect party” and you’ll still be waiting come the next millenium.
    Get behind a party that’s genuinely right of centre and the growing support will encourage it to espouse and campaign on real conservative principles.

        Weird, isn’t it? Perhaps they think supporting sales would be the kiss of death when they’ve only just been born, but without a brave and principled conservative stance they’ll never amount to much more than ACT or the Libz.

        From my brief conversations with a couple of members I get the feeling that it’s in Craig’s head and while the party is young and funded by him, the old rule: “he who has the gold makes the rules” applies.

        I can argue for the economic and moral imperative of private property forcefully so might get involved. Course corrections are larger when travelling a long distance if applied early.

    I refused to vote in the last elections because there was simply no viable alternative to the National/Labour clones. If the Conservative Party can offer a real option- even if we have to hold our noses and put up with one or two policies we disagree with-then surely they’re worth supporting, if only to stimulate some real debate about the direction NZ is headed?

    I maintained before the election, and I maintain now, that there is room for both the Conservatives and ACT/Leftertarianz/Freedom or whatever the liberals want to call themselves. They might have to agree to not fight each other in electorates while agreeing to ally to fight the larger leftist enemy (the NatLab coalition, watermelons, Winston First, Mana), but that’s really OK and all they have to do is STFU about social policy until they’ve defeated the left and implemented their (mostly) agreed economic policy (noting, as Jeremy said, the Conservatives’ illogical opposition to ‘asset’ sales). But no, doesn’t look like that’s going to be possible.

        I’ve been having an ‘interesting’ discussion on Muriel Newman’s NZ Centre for Political Research FaceBook Page with some of the more out-there members of New Zealand society, and I’ve come to the very sad conclusion the place is beyond salvation. In fact, if some of these morons are exemplar of kiwis in general, the place just ain’t worth saving. A sample of the more interesting comments…

        (on Maori privilege): “The white people stole their land and the treaty. If u don’t like this leave. U are nothing but a thief and some1 who breaks an agreement. Sorry if that sounds hard but that is whole we are. Also funny how wealth is a white privilege and.the system is about supporting white discourse”

        (My reply): “You self-hating numpty. Go read some of New Zealand’s real history before making your uninformed, historically incorrect bs comments. Yes, some land was confiscated, but that has been compensated many, many times over. The reason the Treaty even came into existence was because the chiefs wanted crown protection … From each other! And the new arrangements, over the seabed, local governance and various other deals that have been done go way, way beyond compensating for land confiscation”

          What is pathetic about it is that they cannot even see the hypocrisy of their own arguments….

          Perhaps they need to break down the Kawa of various tribes, and look at what is behind the fundamentals of their ‘best practice society’… be it Paeke, or tau-utu utu , there is an inherent Paternalism present… its not a exclusively European thing at all…. it is only in recent times that Maori culture allow women to partake in important parts of ceremonial activities, and even then it is not universal…

          How do these intellectual giants counter Muslim, African, Hindu, Punjabi, indeed most Indigenous culture and its inherent paternalism? Or is that not relevant in NZ society? If not why not?

          Do they really understand who declared war against whom in the 1850s and 60s and what it took to protect the lives people who purchased land legitimately from neighbouring – or distant as the case may be- tribes/

          Perhaps they need to go and read some of the biographical accounts and the pronouncements therein of the Maori Rangatira who dictated the terms and influenced events leading up to the land-wars, in order to understand the predicament the Gore Browne and Grey were in…..
          Does a treaty constitute 1 party alone?

          Did the Governors General not have a duty to the other signatories of the treaty as guaranteed under the treaty?

          Should a treaty even recognise non signatories, especially if those non signatories only recognised military supremacy as the paramount argument and decree, and then lost in the subsequent military actions they instigated?
