Some (rare) good news:

‘A UNITED-NATIONS-led move to give itself a role in regulating the internet has stalled with the US refusing to sign onto an agreement.
The US has announced it will not sign the global telecom treaty being negotiated at a UN gathering in Dubai because it opens the door to governmental regulation of the internet, the US delegation chief said today.

“The United States today announced it cannot sign (the treaty regulations) in their current form,” Terry Kramer, the head of the US delegation to the World Conference on International Telecommunications, said in a teleconference from Dubai.

“The US has consistently believed and continues to believe that the (UN treaty) should not extend to Internet governance or content,” Kramer added.’

An update of the Anita Killeen post

‘One law for thee, and one for me’
It gets worse–much worse.
Stephen Franks is a principal of specialist Wellington law firm Franks & Ogilvie (Commercial & Public Law) :
“…a depressing report that the judge (Mary-Beth Sharpe) had tried to reserve rights to censor Radio New Zealand coverage of the trial.
….we are reminded that earlier proceedings were made secret.
…My initial post focussed wrongly on the gender and class issues. This is now a  more serious case which appears to present favouritism from the prosecution, indifference to the victims, and the misuse of the power the Court should never have been given,  to keep it all secret for as long as possible.”
Doesn’t get much worse than that, does it? And will the judge resign? Of course not–that would require some integrity and respect for the law.

A word or two for the “Administrative Decisions Tribunal”

‘SEVEN years after shock jock Alan Jones called Sydney’s Lebanese Muslims “vermin” who “infest our shores” and “rape” and “pillage” our nation, he must apologise.
The precise wording of the apology was agreed to in the Administrative Decisions Tribunal yesterday.’
And Wabbit says this:
Sydney’s Lebanese Muslims  are vermin who infest our shores and rape and pillage our nation–and the Administrative Decisions Tribunal is an unelected fascistic organisation which is  an enabler of islamists and the enemy of free speech.

The slimy mainstream media:

In this case, AAP, repeated in News.com. The headline:
‘Israel border guards kill Palestinian boy
the facts:
‘ISRAELI border guards have shot dead a Palestinian teenager armed with a fake pistol in the West Bank city of Hebron, a police spokeswoman says.
….”A young Palestinian man approached a post manned by border guards. One of them asked him for his identity card. The Palestinian attacked him, brandishing a gun that he aimed at the head of the border guard,” the spokeswoman said.
“Another border guard who was nearby opened fire killing the Palestinian.”..’
As a policeman anywhere in the world would have done. But why spoil an Israel-bashing headline, eh?  (emphases mine)

Surrender:

‘New Army Manual Orders Soldiers Not To Criticize Taliban
Here is a strong indicator that the Obama Administration’s crusade to appease Islam has gone too far; a new U.S. military handbook for troops deployed to the Middle East orders soldiers not to make derogatory comments about the Taliban or criticize pedophilia, among other outrageous things. It gets better; the new manual, which is around 75 pages, suggests that Western ignorance of Afghan culture— not Taliban infiltration—is responsible for the increase in deadly attacks by Afghan soldiers against the coalition forces…’       Judicial Watch

WordPress update time

So don’t blame the Wabbit if things go sideways. I’m not a WordPress geek, and the people responsible for developing these updates don’t seem to realise that it may be their hobby and passion, but for most users it’s just a tool and we don’t need or want it made more complex. If it’s working, leave the bloody thing alone! Go tinker elsewhere.
UPDATE: Perhaps we won’t be installing WP 3.5 after all–the first comment in the WP forum is from somebody who installed it and now their post editor and plug-ins don’t work. It’s time the developers made up their damn mind whether WP is their hobby or a tool for non-geeks. grrrrr……

Take a Labor politician to court?

Good luck with that. The “right” judge will look after it. Of the Ashby vs Slipper case, which has just been thrown out as “politcally motivated” – without the evidence even being heard – a commenter at Tim Blair’s says “This means any case brought against Wilson, Blewitt and Gillard would be seen as “politically motivated”. This judgement creates a very dangerous precedent and should be overturned. “Politically motivated” as a defence will become the claim in any case involving a politician or anyone aspiring to a political career, even a career in a union would probably classify.”
Attempts to access the judge’s homepage (Justice Steven Rares) are now (surprise!) unsuccessful. But there are some interesting indicators right here of what’s going on….
These bastards are barely bothering to cover up their totalitarian impulses now.
