More anti-gun propaganda:

The headline: ‘Revealed: The small Victorian towns with more guns than people’
‘The East Gippsland hamlet of Swifts Creek has the highest ratio: 774 registered firearms shared by just 278 residents, the Herald Sun reports.’
The following news item has nothing whatsoever to do with crime in Swift’s Creek–perhaps because crime figures in that town are nothing remarkable. But it made a good headline-grabber, eh? Here’s the truth:
‘Firearms outnumber the local population more than two to one, but there has not been a single shooting – accidental or otherwise – in recent memory.’ (Via Tim Blair)
‘National Coalition for Gun Control chairwoman Sam Lee said more guns led to more crime.’
No evidence is offered to support the claim, and no information about the membership or funding of her organisation.
‘The annual figures showed an increase of 62 per cent in robberies involving guns and a 15 per cent increase in assaults with a firearm.
Supt Guerin described those involved in recent lawless behaviour in Melbourne’s northwest suburbs as “peasants … acting in a way they would in the foothills of their home country, shooting up the streets as if it’s the wild west”.
A clue there, perhaps?
“Instead of farming they rob people, or stand over them or sell dope – and they use firearms to enforce it,” he said.
The head of the force’s licensing and registration division, Supt Russell Barrett, said shootings in Melbourne had emphasised the issue of illicit gun use.
“I don’t think the issues we’re seeing are with the licensed shooters. The problem is not with the lawful weapons in the hands of lawful shooters,” he said…’
Which sort of runs counter to the headline and the hysterical tone of the article, doesn’t it?
Here’s an idea–break down the gun-crime figures by ethnicity, and the source of the problem will become apparent.

Heh they just described the Methodist church next door to me

The Anti-gun lobby has never let the facts get in the way of they’re endless hysteria.

You know, I can never work out if these “reporters” are actually anti-gun themselves or just parroting the lefty talking points. By the way this item is put together I’d say the former.
Indoctrinated buffoons who have never bothered to research the facts behind what they write.

They don’t have the brains to be pro- or anti-anything. They’re fed their lines by the editors and producers, and they just parrot.

On a related note, there’s much hand-wringing this morning about the Sea Shepherd “protesters” who were “detained” by the Japs on the Shonan Maru 2. Thankfully, the churnalist repeaters are being hammered in the comments about them not being protesters, but pirates who illegally boarded the vessel under cover of darkness and who should be carted away to Tokyo to be tried as such.

Some of them might have seen the consequences of being an unarmed victim of a crime firsthand.

As for Victoria, as stated: a fine example of multiculturalism not working. Is there any Official Information Act type way of finding that data?
(It would certainly be interesting to know- not that it would be easy for inquiring minds to find out.)
