The race card has always worked for him in the past, I guess…

‘New Zealand actor Jay Laga’aia has accused Australian network Channel 7 of axing him from Home and Away because of his ethnicity.
Laga’aia, who is of Samoan descent, has backed comments from Underbelly actor Firass Dirani, who accused networks of a “white Australia” policy and that actors on shows such as Packed to the Rafters and Neighbours do not reflect Australian society in 2012…’        source
He could always go and get what passes for “work” in a Samoan soapie.

I have watched Jay on Home and Away (not that I like the programme) and he is a terrible actor, infact its actually cringe worthy watching him.

He could not sing in jesus christ superstar. He was ok in the mid 80s doing cameo parts in billy t james show lol.

  2. Octagongrappler says:

Oh He should come home, Shortland Street would snap him up as they appear to have a non white policy

Some years ago a Murphy Sua got dropped from the NZ cricket team. It was racist also. Nothing do do with being replaced by better bowlers. Nope, just racist.
Jay’s axing has nothing to do with being a crap ham actor. It’s racist.

Sometimes I’d like to the business who have to defend themselves of these false accusations, just say “Nah, we fired him cause he was crap” but explaining is losing.

Well, in his defense, Miss Six loved loved loved him on Play School!

Jay was in Play School!!! Jay would have been a winner on romper room or rainbow

What saddens me more than this news is Australian retailers (esp barmaids) could guess my ethnicity from “Last day of the Play-School week”.
Then they bought lesbian mums on (the Aussie version) and I could no longer self-identify.
I feel your pain, Jay

  5. Flashman says:

Shortland st will always make room for him – given his 24 carat ethnic credentials an’ all.

And if he knows even a little bit about about sport, it would be easy to spot the dude as regular on the ever-awful ‘crowd goes wild’ replacing that fat guy who thinks he’s funny.

  6. WAKE UP says:

There are a lot of …ummm…”ethnics”…working in New Zealand showbiz precisely BECAUSE of their ethnicity.
