The pussification of Aussies

Headlines in today’s News.com:
‘LAST DRINKS: Calls for clampdown on drinking culture
3500 Australians each year are brain damaged by assaults – many of them occuring late at night after too many drinks. | Call for national symposium | Put the boot into the violent sport culture | An end to ‘dumb, drinking culture’| Free ‘Real Heroes Walk Away’ iBook..’
We hear from leftards and mealy-mouthed mommyists that “there’s no such thing as an “Australian culture”….until they want to change it, that is. And in any case, people who indulge in excessive booze and violence are still a tiny minority. This is just another social-engineering fad driven by assholes who need to get a life of their own instead of meddling in the choices of others. We sometimes drink and occasionally we fight. Big deal. Go find something worth campaigning for…something like..oh, I dunno..personal liberty, perhaps or rooting out corruption among politicians and the judiciary. Or is that in the “too hard” basket?

I’m not condoning cowardly, unprovoked attacks, by the way. But young men fight–they always have, always will. Outlaw that, and the aggression will pop up in other, unexpected ways. But then, do-gooders of all stripes have never accepted that there are always unintended consequences due to their touchy-feely efforts to change human behaviour.

Yup,it’s called risk compensation, anytime government or an organization imposes a rule to reduce risk,we humans by nature subconsciously go the other way and take increased risks somewhere else.

There was a study done shortly after the states began making seatbelts mandatory. It was found that after the law people on average drove 5-10mph faster.

Just like us, a lot of aussies like a drink or seventeen. So what if that is our culture?

Punish those who harm others when pissed, bill those who tie up medical resources-otherwise- get the fuck over it.

  3. a bit off thread but-it has to do w/ Australia–esp the dogs-they know how to deal w/ terrorist protesters better than bho or other gvt officials!

FFS this sort of sh*t p*sses me off no end. There are enough laws around to deal with public drunkenness and common assault…..and clubs/bars that keep on serving loud, belligerent drunks. It is the same each time: punish all for the acts of a few…….or maybe it’s because the PC crowd are just too f*cken scared to name the people where drink is destroying their society, so they make laws to make everyone stop. :rant

  5. KG says:

    Headline:
‘OLDER motorists face new tests to keep their licences under a review that also encourages families to dob them in for bad driving.’
    in the same article:
‘RACQ spokeswoman Lynda Schekoske said older drivers were under-represented in road statistics but changes needed to be considered…’

So there is demonstrably no need to meddle, but the bastards are going to anyway!

    • mawm says:

Low-hanging fruit? They’ll just keep on aiming at easy targets in their bureaucratic ‘have-to-pass-laws-to-justify-my-job’ way.
Changes need to be made – can I suggest lining up all the bureaucrats? :gunner

    • Darin says:

Too right,it’s not the old folks that are the dangerous ones.No the deadliest drivers behind the wheel are 16 year old girls who believe they can drive and text at the same time, the trail of vehicular carnage they leave in their wake is truly frightening

Besides, like my Dad says,if you don’t like his driving get off the sidewalk :rant

You owe me a keyboard :) And coffee coming out through the nose isn’t pleasant…

  7. You know I never thought of that, yeah they always say what culture, but when it’s convenient, suddenly everything they deem bad is culture that needs to be change.

Nothing about the culture of wife-beating, gang-raping, genital mutilation, no oh no, not a pair of balls within a 100 miles for that sort of culture change.

Another thing that occurred to me was that if alcohol is supposed to be this terrible scourge, this pestilence that kills thousands, no make that millions for hysterical effect, how come these nannying fascists don’t apply the same smearing and vilification they freely do to tobacco.

When it comes to smoking, even the news presenters who’re supposed to shove their opinions up their rear ends openly denigrate and tut-tut at the tobacco companies.
