Australia’s child abuse enquiry

was always going to be an attack on the Catholic church. No mention so far of child abuse in Aboriginal communities (a huge problem) or child abuse by teachers. Yet in the U.S. child abuse by teachers is a massive problem and there’s absolutely no reason to expect that it’s not happening here. Andrew Bolt has an interesting post on this today.
(I’m not a Catholic, by the way.)

  1. I believe that the reason for such a substantial number of incidences of child sexual abuse is due to the perversion of Western culture. In American schools women are the sexual predators at a much higher rate than are men and this is certainly due to changing societal attitudes. While the motivations between the genders are different, the women are more aggressive in the pursuit of children. Such aggression is not new in female offenders and this is reflected in the rate of female violent crimes according to the Bureau of Justice Statistics.

The failure to report child sexual abuse is a widespread problem and not one that only the Catholic Church faces. Recently we witnessed the Penn State University administration and Joe Paterno sweep the abuses of Jerry Sandusky under the carpet when he was caught molesting a child in the showers. In fact, there is evidence to reasonably conclude that the University was aware that children were being victimized by Sandusky for years. Nobody acted to protect the victims and they all just turned a blind eye to these abuses.

It takes a great deal of courage to stand up for what you believe in and it takes even more to point an accusatory finger at a friend or co-worker. If we are ever to get a handle on this problem we are going to have to demand that people report and bring the full force of the law down on those who fail to perform this duty.

Ah yes, William, about that word, “duty”…..
Don’t hear it much these days, do we?
