I do not share at all the district court’s perception of the seriousness of the offense,” says the 17-year-old’s defense attorney, Mr. Jansson.

    And the defense attorney got his wish. The 8 year sentence has been reduced to 4.’
    Those progressive, tolerant Swedes should be feeling thoroughly enriched by now..

    So wait just a minute,we are supposed to feel sorry for the parents who obviously raised a couple rotten kids that did a horrendus crimes and brought all of the trouble they lament on themselves and their family.
    And at the same time we are supposed to feel sorry that they got tougher sentences than the average murderer?

    New Orleans,or rather the New Orleans area is an interesting study.

    New Orleans proper is in Orleans Parish and except for the tourist areas is a genuine hellhole,80+% black and nearly 100% Demorat.

    But just two miles from there is Jefferson parish which is mostly white,mostly Republican,mostly thriving and mostly made up of people who fled New Orleans.

    My mother was born and raised there.She lived in Metaire about two miles from downtown.In her day she used to catch a street car,by herself at night and ride it all the way downtown to Canal street and the Charity Hospital where she was a nursing student.
    There was no crime to speak of,maybe a murder a year and that was usually a bar fight that got out of hand.You could sleep at night with the windows and doors open and leave your car keys under the floor mat.Everyone had a job and everyone was polite.
    That all started changing in the mid sixties and steadily went to ruin since.I had a lot of family down there and a lot of good memories.It truly was a great city and it’s sad to see it go. :sad:

    I’m not sure those places can ever be recovered, Darin. The long-term answer may be that law-abiding, non-welfare people move out to other places and then guard those towns or whole states against any influx on the part of the sort of people who make welfare a lifestyle.
    Of course, they’ll be accused of racism, but there are plenty of decent, hardworking black families who could take that option too.
