    BTW, Townsville, Queenland is an impressive and beautiful city of about 200,000 – and was an important Allied base in WW II for the campaign in the Southwest Pacific that suffered three Jap air raids; however, the Nips were intercepted and didn’t do any significant damage other than blowing up a palm tree. :mrgreen:

    Speaking of WW II in Queensland, Australia – apparently the most damage the state received in that conflict was by way of the U.S. Army :!:

    In defense of the G.I.s we didn’t know any better then to store our bombs and fuel in an area that had a history of bush fires. :roll:

    I mean if an ordinance officer out looking for a safe out-of-the-way place for his munition dump, wouldn’t ask a local about important things like that :?: :roll:

    Like “DUH :!: ” He must have been a Democrat :!:

    Anyhow, this (no doubt loser ROTC officer and they are still looking for the idiot :!: :mrgreen: ) didn’t do his work, so the trucks rolled in from the railroad from Townsville filled with bombs – and, of course, the inevitable happened and a wild fire started and BOOM :!: :oops:

    Final WW II score for Queensland: Japs – one palm tree, Yanks – one town. :cry:

    I wonder if U.S. Army veterans are welcome in Hughenden, Queensland :?:

Go to the website and purchase insurance just wonderfully perfect for you. That’s an idea ain’t it? If I don’t want NO insurance like a bunch of folks out here too lazy, broke, dual diagnosed and bi-polar to want/think about insurance, or young folks who don’t see why they need insurance and now expected to buy it so the old folks with dreaded diseases can be paid for or shipped to solyndra for processing – were I in my 20’s I might think them folks wanting to siphon off my jack to subsidize etc etc. Impeach. :roll:

    While driving north of Mossman last week, noticed a road sign indicating to “WWII Bomb Site”, didn’t have time to check it out but Googled it when we got home..

    When I was passing though Broome a couple of years ago, I read about the air raid there.. the Zero was taken out by a member of the Royal Dutch Airforce who fortuitously had been cleaning his machine gun on the airfield at the time of the raid.

    Yes, the big Jap raids on Australia were at Darwin.

    People these days often forget how close Australia and New Zealand were to invasion by Japan in early 1942 had the Jap fleet not been given a bloody nose at the Battle of the Coral Sea.

    Unfortunately a lot of Kiwi’s today forget that if it wasn’t for the good old USA, the Imperial Japanese army and navy would have waltzed on in.

    Further to the Broome air raids, some of the flying boat remains can still been seen in the harbour at very low tides.. Apparently at the time they had on board diamonds removed to Jakarta from Holland upon the Nazi invasion and that after the Broome attack, a Detective was sent up from Perth to investigate the theft of these diamonds by one of the locals.

    Ronbo, You are spot on about the employer insurance going the same way as the individual policies. What I’ve only seen once is that many of those who didn’t have insurance don’t have an income anywhere near enough to pay for insurance no matter who offers it. In addition, it is estimated that there would still be 30 million without insurance after the full implementation of the act.

    So when the inevitable happens and the private health care system crashes and burns, the cavalry of single payer Obama socialized medicine comes charging in to save the day :!: :evil:

    Obama said as much back in 2008…I think that video is still available on youtube. He said he believed it would take ten years for the Feds to destroy private medicine in America.

    Thus American medicine will fall into (at best) the British system of rationed socialized health care for 90% of the population and a few elite private hospitals and doctors for the wealthy and connected.

    Personally I don’t think this current collectivist regime is going last long enough to accomplish this mission, as America is facing economic collapse due to its worthless fiat currency and running up the highest debt in the recorded history :!:

    Yes, early 1942 in the Pacific war was kind of like a Hollywood Western when the Indians have finally cleared the way for the massacre of wagon train and move in for the kill – suddenly a bugle is heard sounding the charge and the cavalry comes charging over the hill with sabers drawn and pistols smoking :!:

    Australia and New Zealand were defenseless due to being loyal members of the British Empire who had sent most (and the best) of their military forces to North Africa to confront Hitler :!: :shock:

    Of course, no one expected the huge British base at Singapore as rapidly as it did with it’s large cannons, aircraft and garrison of 250,000 crack Imperial troops – but it did – and the way was open for the Jap blitz south.

    One of my uncles was a U.S. Marine who landed at Wellington, NZ is early 1942 – He told me the city seemed populated only by old men, women and kids.

    “Where are your fighting troops?” he asked a bartender woman in a pub.

    She replied, “I think you are, mate :!: ”

    The beer was free that weekend, btw. :mrgreen:

    Regarding those WWII stories about the Japanese planning to invade Australia. I read about 25 years ago that during the war a Japanese navy vessel ran aground near Darwin, and some of the bansai warriors climbed off the ship to check out the place. They were met by a group of Aboriginal people, and having never seen a black man before, they ran back to their ship in fear, and hid inside with the hatches fastened until a local army patrol, alerted by the blackfellas, came and took them prisoner. They had to be practically dragged off the ship after seeing what native Australians looked like.
