The socialist in the Vatican:

…And the next thing out of his stupid, brain washed socialist mouth is that Jesus Christ was the world’s first Communist
Another vile traitor in high position to his God
I think we need a new Pope…
Lke I said before-If it comes from Latin America and it’s in leadership it’s a Marxist Communist.
I read Ann Barnhardt at intervals. She is not a fan of Francis as you can tell from these (amongst others):
http://www.barnhardt.biz/2013/10/01/the-gospel-rewritten-by-pope-francis/
http://www.barnhardt.biz/2013/09/30/catching-up-the-cardinals-and-peronist-fascism/

And there i was thinking the Catholic church would hold firm.
“… some people continue to defend trickle-down theories which assume that economic growth, encouraged by a free market, will inevitably succeed in bringing about greater justice and inclusiveness in the world. This opinion, which has never been confirmed by the facts,”
He should take a tour of China if he wants facts, a communist country that embraces capitalism and capitalist countries to save its masses. I’m no expert on international trade but i’m pretty sure their biggest customer or source of bread is that bastard America, the the home of the evil capitalism. If he wants to be safer and keep his organs in the process, also try India, a socialist country to be fair, but still embracing capitalist principles and countries to lift its masses from poverty. I know because i’ve seen the changes. 15/20 years ago, you had to lock the gates to keep the beggars out from pestering you. Now traffic jams and finding parking is a bigger concern.
Socialism has made more people poorer and it’s buddy communism leaves most of them dead in the ditch, these unlike the ‘facts’ the good Pope refuses to see are plain common knowledge because…. well it actually happens, venezuela, USSR anyone?
But then again there are legions of many people who continue to defend socialism and even communism. These bastards (i’m being nice) who never lived in the heyday of communism and socialism insist the capitalism they live and enjoy everyday is far worse. Funny how these effing bastards never choose to eff off from the west to live in some socialist shithole though.
Every word, Mathew. Every damn word.
I seem to remember this Pope was elected with unusual haste and something that looked an awful lot like a carefully orchestrated PR campaign.
It seemed odd at the time, but begins to make sense.
I’ve got no beef with the friends of Jesus, whatever their stripe, but anyone who takes their marching orders from a man wearing a giant hat who claims he’s got a hotline to God is asking for any and all strife that befalls them.
True that – the Pope does not speak for the vast majority of Christians, even if they happen to be Catholics, who know damn good and well that the Gospels are not socialist dogma.
BTW, I’d like to know where the Grand & Glorious Pope finds Marxism in the New Testament? The copy I have doesn’t have it in there, but maybe his Holiness sees a “Penumbra” – a shadow region – where Jesus tells us to overthrow capitalism and shoot the capitalists
It’s the miracle of the seven loaves and fish, isn’t it?
Maybe the dumb bastard thinks that if we all share enough then God will step in and fill the gaps.
I’ll bake my own bread and catch my own fish, thanks.
I have enormous respect for the Catholics I know personally and I’m also damn sure we’re better off with people who follow Jesus rather than Marx.
But a socialist Pope has the potential to wreak huge damage and if he allows the office to be hijacked by the scumbags on the left then he deserves to be removed or ignored.
Tens of millions have never lived or experienced the crushing boot that is marxist-communism’s practical reality.
There’s the problem, right there.
The catholic church is anti-capitalist…and always has been. Its paramount concern down the centuries is sustaining itself by maintaining its grip on the minds of the blankly superstitious and enriching itself by whatever means necessary.
I’m not a religious person but my upbringing was kind of half-baked Catholic. Anyway, this flash new Pope, for all the learning it must have taken him to get the comfy chair and the big hat, seems to have missed out on the story about how Jesus said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”
Even agnostics like me know that one.
Yep.
Actually, even though that excerpt taken out of the overall context of “Evangelii Gaudium” appears to confirm what all of you are saying, I read the whole thing yesterday, and to put the interpretation that Francis is a socialist and hates capitalism is wrong.
What he is doing is criticising the way that within the capitalist system that wealth for the wealthy is growing exponentially, while the poor get poorer. That isn’t the case in NZ, Oz, USA or Europe in general terms because poverty in our countries is relative. But there is very real poverty in Latin America and Asia. He is saying that the wealthy should be doing more to assist the poor; that accumulation of wealth has become an end in itself, instead of of being for the common good.
The Catholic Church – as spoken in the gospels – has always favoured the poor and downtrodden in society. That is a Catholic thing – not a socialist thing. The church has a thing called “The Preferential Option for the Poor”, and has always promoted it. Francis says in his encyclical that he is NOT making a political statement.
Check “Rerum Novarum” back around 1886 by Poep Leo XIII where all this started. He condemns the EXCESSES of Capitalism – not captialism itself – but outright totally condemns Socialism as being evil and wrong – as have all the popes since that time. The church tends to promote “Distributism” – which is similar to Co-operatives, which have been so successful in NZ with the Dairy industry, and in Spain with the Mondragon Co-op business.
Read the whole thing – sure, he does criticise capitalism capitalism, for not in the way you seem to think.
South America has some of the greatest natural riches in the world. The reason so many of their peoples are impoverished is because they’re riddled with rank and file corruption.
They launch a people’s revolution to overthrow the rich and then promptly go back to business as usual. Argentina had/has enormous quantities of oil but remains a shit-hole, because the entire nation spends more time maneuvering for a spot on the government tit than having a go at being productive. Remove the oil from the equation and that’s where you find most other South American nations.
Socialism is a mental disease and South America is rife with it. You’d sooner form a functional nation out of the lunatics in an asylum.
You would think a pope would grasp that the only thing which lifts people out of poverty is increased production. It’s not rocket science to understand that if you gave everyone in South America a million dollars then the cost of a bag of rice would go up to, you guessed it, a million dollars.
Money is irrelevant. Production is all that matters.
Ok Don, thanks. I’ll go and read it very carefully.
” Francis says in his encyclical that he is NOT making a political statement.”
Well, that’s somewhat naive or disingenuous–all pronouncements by a Pope on social and economic matters are political, whether they intend them as such or not.
But it’s indisputable that he’s given ammunition to the socialists and that there’s some evidence in his past that he supports liberation theology.
“Money is irrelevant. Production is all that matters.”
Damn right.
