Well, that backfired!

Post by The Gantt Guy:
I don’t know if y’all keep up with the Social Media, but there’s a right shitstorm going on at the moment over Phil Robertson.
Phil is the patriarch of the Robertson clan, stars of the series Duck Dynasty, which screens on A&E. He was interviewed by GQ recently, and asked about his thoughts on certain topics dear to the hearts of the Cultural Marxists. His opinions were deemed a breach of the standards u0pheld by the Thought Police and, after a complaint from G.L.A.A.D., Robertson was suspended indefinitely by A&E, the network which screens the show.

The full interview Phil gave with GQ can be found here, but the bit that has the homosexualists and Thought Police particularly exercised was this:
“It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
Now, Duck Dynasty has some 14 million viewers per episode (making it one of the most-watched TV shows of all time), and I’d be willing to wager that pretty-much every single one of them agrees with Phil’s views. So, A&E have basically lost 14 million of their viewers.
The Left absolutely loathe the Robertsons. They are Christians for a start. They’re also self-made (how the hell does a family turn the invention of a new kind of duck call into a multi-million dollar corporation?) and self-sufficient. Everything the Left loathes.
The backlash has been absolutely huge. Glenn Beck has offered the Robertsons a home on The Blaze. Bobby Jindal has issued a statement in support of the Robertsons (they’re Louisanans – mates with darin most likely). Ted Cruz has also issued a supporting statement. A Facebook group set up to support Phil has 900,000 followers joined up in a single day (A&E have about 580,000 followers on their page).
Oh, and guess what’s “trending” on Twitter right now? Oops, A&E – Massive fail!
I wonder if A&E execs are thinking this might be one of those “oh shit” moments in life, and wondering how they can climb out of the hole they dug without getting too dirty?
It isn’t the first falling-out between Phil and A&E. In early series of the show, the studio inserted ‘bleeps’ into the conversations, to make it appear the Robertsons were using language unsuitable for television. And each episode closes with the entire clan around the dinner table, where they say grace. At the end of the prayer, that say “in Jesus’ name, Amen” (as all Christians do). The network edited out the whole bit about Jesus, so it looked like the Robertsons could have been praying to anyone or anything (can’t upset the Muslims, Hindus, Objectivists now can we?). Phil had a crack at them and told them to quit it or the show would stop. He won then, and he’ll win this time too.
UPDATE: Of course, the NZ prog media have weighed in. And of course, they’ve got it wrong! The pic they put up with the article ain’t Phil it’s his brother, Uncle Si.

The kicker for me was when some gay lawyer on ‘The Kelly File’ tried to say that what Phil said wasn’t what Christian’s believe. I got news for that idiot. True Christians believe in the New Testament as the revealed word of God and what Phil said is there. What Attorney Idiot was trying to foist on an ignorant non-Christian public was the idea that the tenet of ‘Love thy Neighbour’ requires Christians to condone any and all behaviour the Progessives think should be allowed.

Sometimes I think the Left pushes that crap only to get another voting block.

    • The Gantt Guy says:

That’s the thing isn’t it, Michael. They want all of Christianity liberalised, softened up, reduced to those few verses which progs can twist into some watered-down version of the True Word. They want us all to be … Anglicans!

They want us to forget Jesus’ attitude to sin. They don’t want anyone hearing that he threw the moneychangers’ tables out of the temple, and whipped the traders.

That’s the key. The ultimate goal is the destruction of the Church (they would love to destroy Christianity but that’s impossible, so they’ll do the next-best and destroy the Church), and the way to do it is to constantly point out that it’s pointless. It’s no different from any other club. And for the past 70 years or so, they’ve been right. Because the mainstream Church has proved them right.

That’s why they loathe men like Phil Robertson. That’s why they trot out some gay lawyer (recall Jesus’ contempt for lawyers?) who likely has a deep understanding of the Bible but deliberately twists it to his own ends because what it says – what he knows it means – doesn’t fit his debauched lifestyle.

Well, of course–it’s not like they have principles to push, is it?

    • Darin says:

And it’s amusing to watch what happens when they run up against somebody that has principles like Phil.

      • The Gantt Guy says:

Darin, they always go with the same tactic. It’s the only tactic they can deploy, the only one they have, because they can’t compete on the field of ideas. Their tactic?

        SHUT UP!!!!

You RacistHomophobicIslamophobicSexistMisogynist Pig! How can you be so INTOLERANT???????

        • Darin says:

Yup,like I told my father, doesn’t just amaze you that those who are always screaming and demanding tolerance are the least tolerant of all?

On New Orleans talk radio there were a good many Gay folks calling in and taking Phil’s side while slamming Glaad for what most called “in your face facism”.

  3. Ronbo says:

Actually the Left does have principles, the problem for them is the fact that the overwhelming majority of Americans are not on board with the Communist Manifesto, so the Democrats would never win another election if they were honest about their agenda.

This leaves only character assassination and outright lies about what the usually Christian opposition believes in regards to the New Testament, which Robertson was spot on in his reference to homosexuals.

Jesus spoke against it, as he did against drunks and other sinners.

  4. Darin says:

A&E was worried about possibly loosing a few viewers, now it looks like all 14million DD views will be leaving and following DD to another network,GOOD! http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_yahoo.gif

It is also more proof that Hollyweird and the media in general have no clue about who the rest of America are.

  5. KG says:

    Speaking of principles….
‘Sen. Reid in hospital for observation’
Extensive tests have failed to find any traces of principles left in Sen. Reid’s bloodstream.

  6. Findalis says:

Why does less than 10% of the population get to impose their “morality” on the 90%?

  7. KG says:

Which 10% are you talking about, Findalis?

Francis Porretto has something to say on the Duck Dynasty matter:

  9. The DD ‘stared down’ A&E once before –when they were told not to say the name of Jesus –
I had watched the show once or twice til that happened–then the show became a favorite –
and I do not watch much TV–so – for me to look forward to a particular show is a rarity–
They are an example of what I have been stating for 20 years- Christians must stand up and stand together–no more tuning the other cheek!

    Absolutely.

  11. The Gantt Guy says:

Thank you for re-posting this, Mon Capitaine. Not entirely sure what happened; the first time I published, it only pushed through 3 lines. The second, I got about half the post and it only posted the entire rant on the third try.

Everything seems happy happy happy now, so I guess it was the drunk in the cockpit, rather than anything wrong with the plane. ;-)

  13. Contempt says:

 Getting into this a little late and must admit that I watched Duck Dynasty for a while. Good show and funny. Also seems like a nice place to work, if you like to work.

I don’t recall who said something similar to this: A&E bought DD to be able to laugh at stupid Southerners. That is believable. I am going to buy something Duck Commander next time I see a display at the gas station.http://falfn.com/CrusaderRabbit/wp-content/plugins/wp-monalisa/icons/wpml_whistle3.gif

Havin’ a good time here. Hope you are!

  14. Contempt says:

Oh. When a similar penny-ante uproar was put on ChicFil A, the chain made a windfall from customer support. I ate there 3 times that week and the place was crowded every time. Money talks and reveals that we are not a small group of whatever the dems think. First they took the word gay, now that have abused glad. Pecker heads all.

  15. The Gantt Guy says:

Mr Contempt, if you’re right then A&E managed to bump face-first into the upside of the Law of Unintended Consequences. They may have made the show so the civilised folk can laugh at the backwoods southerners, but they found themselves smack in the middle of 14 million people who like what the Robertsons are selling.

Now, they’re close to losing those 14 million viewers. From what I’ve read, the rest of the Roberstons won’t make the show without Phil. Leaving A&E with basically one option; to cancel the show. If they cancel the show, the Robertsons are free under their contract to take it elsewhere, like Beck’s network, meaning -14 million viewers on A&E and +14 million on The Blaze.

    Oops!

You’d think the progs would have learned something from the Chick-fil-A debacle. But they’re basically untrainable. And long may it remain.

  16. KG says:

Francis Porretto bites a commenter. A rare occurrence, and all the more beautiful for it:

  17. Mathew says:

The TV execs are going to have to decide where their food is going to come from. 14 million viewers seems like a lot. Shame on them for folding like cheap suits instead of defending their employee right to speak freely. Perhaps they’re banking on the pro-gay viewership to be bigger. History shows that lot can squeal very loudly, but when it comes to stumping up the cash, you just hear a lot of mewling and whining.

Good that the DD folks have found another home, they shouldn’t be punished for simply stating their beliefs, last i checked it was nazis and commies who took a dim view of people stating their opinions and beliefs freely. Something the pro-gay lobby should reflect on.

  18. thor42 says:

I thought that the “barenakedislam” website made an *excellent* comment when they said that if Robertson had been a Muslim, the MSM wouldn’t give a *TOSS* what he said.

Muslims (being one of the MSM’s “protected species”) can say and do *anything* and the MSM gives them a “free pass”. Bloody MSM hypocrites.

  19. KG says:

It demonstrates what cowardly bullies the employees of the leftard media are, Thor.
