      Good luck with surviving the selection process. Generally male would-be jury members are discarded in the quest for softly softly females. (Read: Emotional non-thinking targets.) This equation turns on the nature of the charges the accused faces of course.

      Heh….. that brings back memories….

      I was on a jury many many years ago.
      The case was a guy that had mugged someone for a six-pack of beer (sheesh, what a loooooser….).
      Anyway, I seem to remember that he was found guilty.
      I have to say – I had a very hard time stopping myself from bursting out laughing in the jury box (the reason being that the lawyers were *so* theatrical! They would stride around with both hands grasping their lapels (you know the posture) while going on about the case.
      I think I missed out on a “contempt of court” call by this much -> ” “…….. :)

    The last jury I was on many years ago was a murder trial, and – believe or not – I voted the guy not guilty and hung the jury.

    In the re-trial several months later he was found not guilty and several years after that, the cops discovered the real murderer.

    This happened in Florida in 1980s and they did have the death penalty.

      Ron,have a buddy in Florida who was called up for jury duty and had no interest in being selected.When the defense attorney asked him if he held any racial animosity.

      He said “No sir,I’m not a racist,I just hate niggers and wetbacks”

        LOL! :mrgreen: I got called for jury duty here in Seattle last year, but seeing as how Uncle Sugar has deemed me a felon and Class III threat to Homeland Security, I was surprised.

        Anyhow, I go to the court house and I tell the clerk – “I’m not eligible for jury duty!” The lady rolled her eyes and said, “That OLD excuse!” and “Go tell your excuse to the state attorney…NEXT!”

        So I go into the jury pool room of about 100 people and the state attorney asks for a show of hands for all those who have a valid reason NOT to be on a jury. I raise my hand along with about 100 people.

        After about an hour he finally gets to me and I tell him. “I’m a presidential assassin. I did four years in a federal prison. If the defendant is Jack-The-Ripper and you have DNA evidence I will vote him innocent.”

        The jury room breaks out in laughter, and the state attorney says, “Now Mr. Barbour please be SERIOUS :!: ”

        “I am! Please check me out on the FBI National crime computer. I tried to tell the clerk, but she wouldn’t listen to me :!: ”

        I am also exempt as a result of previous service as a police officer. I spent part of my career in a remote area where there was a relatively small pool of people eligible for jury service, and now and again I would sit in the witness box, giving my evidence, and look aver at the jury panel, to see people I had previously arrested myself, or people who I knew to have a criminal history of their own. Sometimes I have wondered how that works.

      I just found something interesting in my blog reading before bed, I have no idea if it’s legit or even applicable so just putting it out there [a copy/paste]

      “How to turn off Geolocation in Firefox browser:

      The theory of massive air raids on cities is that it breaks civilian morale and leads to military collapse and surrender.

      WWII is proof that it does not work UNLESS you blow the entire target city to hell with nukes.

      …then civilian morale doesn’t matter because there are no civilians alive. :shock:
