Gee, if he were an American citizen he’d be an “African-American” and get all kinds of help from Uncle Sam, his state of residence, and the civil rights industry!
Seriously, I knew a guy in Florida from South Africa with blond hair and blue eyes who became an American citizen and applied for a job with the Orlando Fire Department. He checked “African-American” on the block on the application, thinking he was just being honest and knowing nothing about the real reason for the question.
He was immediately sent to the front of the interview line, especially as he was from that terrible “racist” nation of South Africa (This happened in the early 1990s before the white regime fell)…
ANYHOW, he gets hired on the spot (He was a big, strong former farmer and soldier) and rumor control has it that the powers-that-be at the fire department made their African-American quota that month, but kept VERY quiet about it for some reason.
Chile may be a bit far south, but I’m still calling it The Mexican Wave!
