Both America and Australia have absorbed enormous numbers of refugees and immigrants, and for anyone to presume to lecture the people of either country on the subject is just plain bloody offensive.

I don’t have much problem with a temporary increase in the orderly induction of refugees in a crisis situation. I think that is the correct thing to do.
But what is currently happening is nothing less than the gate-crashing of Europe. No amount of fatherly witterings from the pope is going to stop folk being outraged at the unchecked surge of interlopers. If he truly does want to stop the rising, and entirely justifiable, xenophobia, he needs to persuade Europe to peaceably return all these people to the refugee camps and start an orderly process to sort the genuine refugees from the opportunists and the insurgents. Perhaps they could use the expertise of Tony Abbott for this…

The trouble MacDoc, is that they would not go back peacefully; far from it. Then what to do? Call in the Military to shoot them? The genie is well out of the bottle. I agree that this is a crisis for Europe and, btw, most of these travellers are not refugees.
Germans just have to think good thoughts and trust that the bracing, fresh air of Europe, with its Renaissance frescoes and Beethoven concertos will turn even violent jihadists into Kumbaya pacifists. What could go wrong?

Actually not a bad idea, KG. Placing a 3 year freeze on welfare payments for all “refugees” who have not followed the proper process would go a long way to stemming the tide.
